Cheap daily drive tyres?

Post by bad_religion_au »

Does anyone know of a source/brand of cheap 7.50 r 16 tires for use through the week? I don't particularly care if they are rough/noisy/on road/offroad/fast wearing tread, because they are basically to keep the diffs off the ground on my troopy, and ensure i can drive it to work when the mood takes me. getting sick of wearing my good offroad tires out doing the daily run, and without power steering , 33x12.5's aren't as much fun in traffic as i remember

Have a look at silverstone tyres. You can get the BFG copies that rated very well against the real thing and they wear quite well. Not sure about sizes though but you can get them for as little as $130 each if you look around. I actually have a set on the shorty that I have at the moment. Not a retread either.

No recommendation to give, but be wary of some of the cheap chine#se tyres, i had a set in this size and they were truly awful. Would go out of round every night when parked, ie; like driving on square tyres until they warmed up, couldn't get rid of them quick enough ;)

There are some pretty cheap retreaded ones on ebay at the moment in that size. No idea if they are any good.

That dodgy mob on Grand Junction Road out Wingfield way usually have a heap of good 7.50s in stock.

Or buy my 285/75s - they're so farkin' old and hard that they'll probably never wear out. :P

Go into one of your local tyre places and see what they have second hand.

I used to pick up hardly used ones that were traded in off of new vehicles.

Have a look in the trading post, there is a mob in Sydney that deal in second hand tyres, lots that have little use that have been taken of new cars when the owner upgrades.

Maybe a similar mob in Melbourne?
