calmini gears
Wondering whether anyone has the calmini crawler gears in their vehicle and how reliable they have been. With the aussie dollar at such a high it is cheaper to buy the 6:1 gears than a rockhopper series 3.
haven't you bought these yet mate? i thought you ordered these things weeks ago
one issue though is that it would be hard to make a claim against them if something went wrong etc.
anyways - 6:1 is not low enough considering that 8:1's are now available - you should be getting those

sounds good mate, have to do a bit more research. Are you having probs getting messages posted on the club website today? i have posted a couple but don't seem to be listed.
If you need them in a hurry calmini will charge you approx $170 us ($230 AUS) postage charge ,then if the tax man & the duty people happen to pick on you they'll hit you with 5% duty & 10% gst and your cheap gears are suddenly near local prices , I ordered calmini gears myself 6 weeks ago and chose the slower usps postal option of $80 us ($110 AUS) and I haven't seen the gears to date ,
jacka where did you order the locker from USA ??? has it turned up yet?? Iam about to buy a locker myself but after waiting so long for the gears I think I will just buy an ARB air locker locally.

Bought the locker from spidertrax, took about 4 weeks to arrive, has been fantastic so far.

When i was running the 29" tyres you could feel it but with the 32" tyres you hardly notice it. Only when you do uturn do you notice it and i have learnt to roll the vehicle through turns rather than power through them and you don't notice it at all.
get around the gst and import tax by having someone in the US get it from the supplier, then ship it to you as a "gift". If it's taking 4 to 6 weeks, then they're not sending it by air. The USPS can send ground shipping from one side of the US to the other in 5 to 7 days, air in 2 days, so it's not slow, just depends on how they shipped it, and how much extra $$ the company threw on there for pure profit....
DHL, Fedex, and UPS also ship to AU. The USPS is pretty pricey to ship to AU anyway, so next time, ask for quotes, or quote it yourself from their websites and get the stuff quicker.... or give me extra dough and i'll send you gifts...

My tires were rubbing in the front, so I trimmed the hood, and now they're fine...
Can get 8:1 gears from rocky-road direct air mailed to sydney within 4 to 10 days for $970USD. That's $890 for gears, $72 shipping, and $9 insurance.
I can't imagine why calmini and spidertrax are so slow. Maybe they're charging you for air mail and sending by slow-boat...

Guess i will need a gift from Seattle quite soon!
well my 5.14 calmini gear set finally arrived today 12 weeks after I ordered and payed for them. They came complete with a duty & gst bill of $210. I called customs to check and found it to be correct as they charge 16% duty(on all car parts) on the total price including postage , then 10 % gst . I also found out that duty free GIFTS are limited to $200 , and only items of $50 or less are duty free. I did ask calmini to label the box warranty but I guess they cant risk it. Iam still happy as these gear sets are not available in aust as far as I know and come complete with counter shaft & bearings which I need for a total cost of $1070 ,about the same price as a s1 4.16 with no counter shaft ect in aust.

Plus he is pretty lazy
Does anyone know of a cheap 1.3 case ? He would considering swapping the 1.0 litre case
You'll find these pretty frequently in the for sale section Shorty40... Anything from $50 to $300 seems to be the going price for them.
Cheers
