Hella Headlights on high beam

Hi fellows, i bought a pair of Hella headlamps last week to replace the LHD headlights that i had. The coverage on low beam is good, but on high beam, the distance is very good, but there is a huge dark patch in front of the vehicle. I made some adjustments as the beams were a bit too close, but still get the same pattern. What can I do to correct this? I also noticed that the Hellas are different from most others but similar to crystal headlights in that there is a piece over the bulb, is this normal?

I have a set of depo headlights and found the same thing with the piece that went over the globe, I have sinced removed this and found the light spread to be much better.

I had a pair of Hella inserts in my GQ. I found the light pattern was terrible. I replaced them with a set of Narva inserts which had a much better pattern.

blown 2 globes in 6 years? or even longer.

Thanks fellows, i did notice that the rear where the bulb goes in, did have slots like most headlights, but it also had a screw on back instead of clips. I dont know if that makes any differnce.

You'll probably find that the reflectors are designed around their globes.
If you have different globes that are of a different length then the pattern will not be ideal.
I'm running Cibie inserts and globes and very happy with them.

Damn, cause i just got a pair of new Hella inserts to replace mine which got dunked into a water crossing while hot.
Ah well, i have 4 HID spotties for high beam so it shouldnt be a problem.

I dont think its the Hella, as I recently checked and the voltage reaching the lights was 12.5. A mechanic recently asked how the light seemed so dull, He couldnt believe that they were 90/100 bulbs. They did remind me of the sealed beam that i had some years ago.

Id say your wiring is too small and not carrying the current for the big wattage draw. Upgrade the wiring and you should get brighter light.

Did the upgrade over the weekend. Man what a difference!! It is what i would expect of a 90 100 bulb. Even better! money well spent

Thanks a mil Bazzle. That looks a lot like mine. I suspect this is the best mod, that i have made to the gq, Places on the way home that were a bit diff to see were lit up like daylight. Who needs HIDs!! I may add a couple fogs, but the lighting is now more than adequate. even for 40 odd year old eyes like mine.

Well so far the Hellas are not bad, but i am thinking of removing the shield inside the headlight as it does take away some of the lumens. The headlight gives a projector like precise beam on high, which is good on a straight road, but on a country road with plenty corners it does have its weakness. I suspect that other designs that give a bit more stray light would prob be a bit better in these circumstances, or a set of driving lights.

I have my high beam lenses pointed down and out to correct this with lighthouse 240's for up the guts. Works well but will be better when I upgrade to my 90/100 globes over the standard ones

why do people want such bright low beams? i dont see the point in blinding a driver that is traveling towards ya at up to
130kph and will be passing ya car less then 100cm away from ya.

A bright low beam set sorrectly with 'legal' cut off wont blind you.

how many people adjust there lights when towing or have a loaded car? about 0% would be my guess.
