4G54 and magna heads

4G54 and magna heads
Hi.
I have a custom made intake manifold for my gen 1 pajero. I made it cause of an EFI ocnversion, a few years ago. Now I'm looking to put the original stuff on. I read that a Magna TR head and intake manifold fit ok. Can you pls confirm this? Magna is an uknown model here so any info is greatly appreciated. I dont know if the same is true for Starion 2.6L models. In short, I'm looking for a way to fit a factory cylinder head and intake manifold to my 4G54. If you also can give me some links from sellers would be great.
Thanks

Re: 4G54 and magna heads
Do you have a efi conversion wanting to convert it back to carby. Or are you just looking at changing the std pajero head to a magna head?
When i did my efi magna conversion i swapped the head off a tn magna, and it fit perfectly and the exhaust stud pattern was exactly the same

Re: 4G54 and magna heads
The Magna has an East-West engine, the Pajero has North-South. The water pump for the Magna is located at what would be the rear of the Pajero. In short, I doubt that a Magna head will suit a 4G54 engine for a Pajero.
Re: 4G54 and magna heads
Um I beg to differ as the magna is a 4G54 aswel and I have installed a tn magna head onto my pajero. The only thing I had to do is remove the pully (on the left of the magna, back of the pajero) connected to the camshaftdate wrote:The Magna has an East-West engine, the Pajero has North-South. If you used the Magna camshaft, you would've had to cut the shaft off the end.
I'm guessing you used the Pajero camshaft & rocker cover, and standard half moon, so you weren't left with a hole where the shaft drove the pulley.
Did the Pajero intake manifold bolt straight up?
Re: 4G54 and magna heads
Like I sai all I did is take the pully off and I am using the magna camsgaft and rocker cover. It does stick out at the back about half an inch and it does spin. The hole is sealed with a donut shaped seal which when I first instaled the head want on and oil went every were, but luckly the seal came wit the gasket kit I got for the head gasket.-Scott- wrote:Well, sort of.luifly wrote:Um I beg to differ as the magna is a 4G54 aswel and I have installed a tn magna head onto my pajero. Because I used the magna manifold for the efi conversion, it bolted straight up. But the pajero intake and exhaust stud pattern are exactly the same (in the tn magna anyway)

Re: 4G54 and magna heads
Thanks for the replies! I would like to keep the pajero camshaft (more low torque i guess). Is this possible with the magna head? Also you said for magna TN. In other sites i've seen a "TR" head instead. Is there any difference?

Re: 4G54 and magna heads
The Magna 2.6L 4 cylinder series went through from the first (TM model) to the TR as far as I know. After that, they had a 2.4L 4 cylinder for the 3rd gen Magnas, but this engine differs from the earlier models. The TP & TR models were fuel injected. The early (TM Magnas had problems with cracks appearing in the camshaft bearing posts. I believe that they sorted this after a while, so the later models should be OK. From what I know, the TP and later models were very reliable.
Re: 4G54 and magna heads
Fuel injection arrived in the TN; TP/TR had different manifolds with larger diameter & longer runners (from memory).
The heads evolved over time, got up to about 9 versions. Earlier versions had hemispherical combustion chambers, but later versions went to kidney shaped chambers (to help emissions, I believe). Later versions also had larger valves, but I'm not sure of the details.
I think the Magnas also came with roller rockers, which use a different profile camshaft. I believe the non-roller rocker set from the Pajero will bolt on.

Re: 4G54 and magna heads
Thanks Scott! I found at sigma-galant everything i needed. Does anyone knows any links of a wrecker where i can find what i need? (intake manifold with injectors). I have a contact in Sydney that can send it to me, but it would be better if i could point him to right direction...
Thanks again...
Thanks again...
