Violent shake in my 98 gu patrol
Violent shake in my 98 gu patrol
Hey there my names Tristram I'm new to the 4wd scene. I recently bought a 98 Nissan patrol 2.8td it's lifted 4 inches on old man emu gear it's all been done properly not sure how long ago tho because receipt had faded before vehicle being purchased. All was good drove it around town throughout the 50-60 km speed zones drove well just had a little vibration starting to hit around 60km so I thought wheel balance. Than I hit the 80km zone and the shake is that violent it shakes the whole cars and feels like a wheel is falling off.. Sometimes you can outshine the vibration sometimes it's gets worse with speed..
Any ideas on what to try??
I think I may have purchased a dud :-/
I have replaced steering dampener and had the wheels balance and checked for bent rims twice by different companies both times
Thanks
Trid

Re: Violent shake in my 98 gu patrol
replace panhard rod bushes , adjust backlash in steering box , check radius arm bushes and tire rod ends , check wheel bearing adjustment
Re: Violent shake in my 98 gu patrol
Would a 4" lift require castor correction? Would bad castor cause these symptoms?
Re: Violent shake in my 98 gu patrol
If any help it has the caster correction arm things
God of Magnificant Ideas!

Re: Violent shake in my 98 gu patrol
Im going through the same thing if you google patrol death wobbles there is pages with people having the same problem and the answer all ways seems to be just a process of elimination. Can be a combination of slight movement in parts combined not just one part causing it, so every one seems to suggest start checking wheel bearings, king ping bearings, panhard bushes, tie rod ends, drag link ends and if was fine before castor must be correct. I have replaced my panhard bushes with original ones as suggested by every one and has not changed any thing so I'm interested if any one else has some other theories as well or suggestions as well.
Re: Violent shake in my 98 gu patrol
It isn't an Old Man Emu suspension as they dont do 4" lifts. So you need to be sure of what you have actually got and make sure it is done properly than it's a bit of a process. Are the wheels balanced, rims straight, wheel alignment, steering all
Fine no loose components etc etc

Re: Violent shake in my 98 gu patrol
My mistake about that I bought an old man emu steering dampener and just had it stuck in my mind at the time.. It's an ironman suspension lift with old man emu steering dampener
Re: Violent shake in my 98 gu patrol
Dont forget to check the kingpin bearings they tend the get a shake up when there worn alittle take the shims out and try that if bushes dont fix the problem

Re: Violent shake in my 98 gu patrol
i replaced everything in mine, bushes, etc, then replaced the shocks, my tough dogs were leaking big time, put in some new ones and no wobble
Re: Violent shake in my 98 gu patrol
Had the same many years ago. Also a 4 inch lift.
I replaced all the tie rod ends and steering dampner>. fixed it short term
I have never had a problem since i fitted new front control arms that were for a 4 inch lift.
Got them from someone on this board .Think his real name was dale not sure on user name.
