Never found a diagram anywhere....... and i've looked.
However the A44D ( as i understand it ) only uses an electric lockup converter, which is nice to have but far from essential. I've never bothered with mine ( its an A44DE... which is slightly different as its electric shift not hydraulic ) There's a small extra box of electronics fitted to the auto's that controls the lockup converter, not doccumented but i've seen one on a wrecked one yonks ago.
So.... if its an A44D - then you can ignore the electrics........ to get it driving.
YOu'll love the auto off road.... but do fit a transmission cooler

Toyota have a full service manual including auto, but seems they don't want to share....

I'm pretty certain that all your going to see is some wires to a "black box"... not very helpfull. But if it truly an A44D then frankly just ignore it, at least for the time being anyway.
The lockup converter only operates in VERY specific circumstances and in a powerhouse like a Feroza its mostly unused :-)
Be VERY carefull if you decide to go for a manual switch or somesuch... the lockup clutch is light duty only... which is normally cool as its really only works for low throttle ctruising.
What about the "donor" vehicle.... you need the crossmember bits etc etc..... so have a look at it ?
Another "lateral" approach copuld be to use a Vitara ( A44DE ) unit. Some Vitara's came with a seperate transmission controller that ran alll the A44DE's solenoid and the lockup. You "might"
be able to use it just as the lockup controller ?
And...... if its got a cable used as the load sensor on the auto ( cant remember on a A44D exactly...... ) i used the cable horn of an Applause.

Mightymouse, its definitely a A44D, managed to wrangle it off a wrecker in VIC who had no idea what it was really worth...
I will be making a custom crossmember for this, the auto has all the original wiring and plugs. Was hoping toyota might be helpful might try sweet talk another dealer and see if I get anywhere.
If all else fails I will just stick it in as you say, it will only be driven purely for offroading and some light comp work (should be interesting to see how long it takes to break things). I have tossed up the idea of having vitara internals with feroza bell-housing, but for some competitions this may be an issues. Basically need to have it ready to go in March so have a bit of time to do the work as its no longer my daily driver (turned to the darkside like you MM and bought Diesel Auto JKU)
MM on a side note when you did you a arm extension you got new CVs made, which company did you get these done through?

No i made replacement driveshafts - used stock CV's but put strengthening rings around them. Given that they weren't running big angles they never gave me grief unlike front diffs :-(
If its for comp work then the lockup is a total waste of time - you shouldn't be using it under any circumstances.
As you know mine is a A44DE with a Vitara case and 4.3:1 gears. Its not a simple conversion in some ways as the Feroza transfer case output shafts are quite a bit lower than the Vitara... making the rear driveshaft and positioning of the drivetrain quite critical. The Feroza auto crossmember is a real F'up from the factory ........ its a real botch job so anything you do will be an inprovement.
One problem i had ( and it obviously was made much worse by the gearing ) was that the torgue was destroying transmission mounts. The stock Vitara torque control bush kept disintegrating so i ended up using the Vitara bush shell and casting a urethane replacement, someting to consider especially if your doing any comp work.
However if you ever want to go nuts wit a Feroza teh Vitara case etc is the way to go. I've still got the 150kw Mazda engine and matching belhousing to the A44DE stored away....... who knows one day i just might get bored and do it.... but probably not as the JK is just sooooo much fun.
The A44XX series of autos are nigh on indestructable for our sort of application so as long as its cooled properly its going to work well.
Love to have alook at it some day.... mines just sitting around slowly collecting leaves.

Would love to put in a mazada engine and mate up to a Vitara case, but with the competitions I will be entering most of them require stock transfer case...
Maybe after I trash a few panels and roll it, it may make it's next evolution..... Maybe comp cut, stretched wheelbase, links and new diffs is on the wish list.
