45 series Question

Post by tasman »

just a quick question i've got some rust in the foot wells of the troopy. have been looking at replacing them.

whats the best way to do this

-does someone make replacements
-have thought about cutting it out of another bus but have been unsuccesful so far
-replace it with new sheet metal.

also it looks like there is some sort of black tar like shizer on it and under that it looks like a fiberglass looking compound.

any help would be good thanks as i'm pretty new to the 45 gear. but lovein it

1.Yes they make panels in the states still. Cost is

2. Yeah lots of work for the same problem. Wasting your time.

3. Yep new sheet metal is the best! Clean it all up and start fresh

The black stuff is probably sound deadner or rust proofing. Don't worry about it just clean it off with a wire brush or angle grinder attachment. Clean up the area put in your new peice, paint and re apply some sound deadner or rust proofing over it.

There is a mob on the sunshine coast who I believe are about to start producing a lot of rust replacement panels for 40s. I think they have some on ebay already maybe. Bundymonkey has spoke with them so I will hit him up for there contact details and post up.

The Stout in the Aussie Restos page was found and owned by a member here before it was sold to his mate at the coast where they did the body on it.
