Family funday weekend (ideas/tips guys and gals??)

We recently had the Lowmead 3 car challenge in CQ which is an event that you can do in a reasonably stock vehicle, and the event is aimed at getting new guys into the sport, but I'm thinking it would be cool to lower the difficulty and competitive even more and look into holding a Fun family weekend where even a stock 4x4 can come along and have a go at a few man made courses that won't wreck their cars and then do a basic gps run, and maybe even a treasure hint style drive where kids can sit in the passenger seat or even the whole family in the wagon,

Now would it be possible to do something like this? I don't want it to be competitive at all, but just fun and games where anyone and everyone can enjoy themselves!


Even if some of the guys who usually race wanted to have a go on a gps stage maybe two groups could be run? With harder to get to points for the better set up guys? And more scenic points for the families with maybe a shallow creek crossing, drive by the lagoon, point out where all the cattle are (they don't get scared by vehicles) stuf like that which would hopefully put a smile on everyones faces!

Any hints, tips or ideas? Could it be run under a club day where everyone signs onto forms as being a guest to the club day?

Yeah good point mate, that's why the aim would be to make it as non competitive as possible, no time keeping, no scoring, if the fools want to try and get bragging rights let them! But there won't be any recognition of their so called "achievement" for "winning" a family friedly gps run... (and I'll put the "bonus" gps points in the middle of the sloppiest, deepest, stinkiest section of creek where they won't find it very enjoyable )

The idea of this is for anyone and everyone to have a go, and get the misses and kids involved and enjoying the outdoors, nothing overly hard at all, sausage sizzle lunch, a couple raffles, a couple lucky door style prizes and plenty of laughs with a night out camping in a really nice spot

Maybe set up the comp like a jamboree, with tracks for just about any type of 4x4. Great fun for everyone.

Yeah, had a look at the website & it seems different to how I remember. I thought it was a weekend of fun for near stock standard 4bies. Doesnt seem that way now.

Hey Mosko, it appears that this has gone or going away from the great idea you had ; FAMILIES/STANDARD or legal road going no competitive vehicles. ??????????????
There are enough for the comp guys, lets have something for the families as what was suggested.
Get in there Mosko and organise it.

Look at the comps titled Son of Trials, held by the Patrol Club every Feb.
Standard and Touring class.
Standard is exactly that. Touring allows for a max 4inch lift and 33s.

Emphasis is more on fun and enjoying the weekend more than being competitive. Each track has a set time, and you are given points depending on your time, 1 point for each second faster or slower than the track time, if that makes sense.

I went to SOT last year in the Lux, took the Mrs with me, we had a great time, I was way too fast on every track, but i didnt care, I still enjoyed myself alot.


Theres also Bushranger Clubkhana, which is held at the Willowglen property, a few weeks after SOT. Might be what you were referring to above.
Unsure how it works, but Ive read that it is similar to Jamboree style events.

The suspension stuff challenge at Scenic Rim Adventure Park started out exactly this type of event. It is for stock standard straight out of the car yards and new drivers to the 4x4 scene. A simple basic track marked out so hopefully no risk of car damage.
We also catered for the more modified car and experienced drivers so they too could enjoy a fun family day. Having these more experienced drivers there gave the new people coming into the sport the opportunity to see what some of these cars are capable of and how to go about entering other events and joining 4x4 clubs.

For the manufactures event we have introduced more of the fun type of activities you have mentioned which again everyone enjoyed. Make up a quiz using the parks track names or special features around the property and have the cars follow the clues to get their puzzle piece. Large balls and have the cars play shoot out into the goal. Drivers play golf or pass the orange while driving their car the games are endless and these events are not hard to organise.

Keep the rules very basic remember this is a family fun event and the prizes simple and low key. It is when you start having expensive prizes the nit picking starts to come into the event which creates a whole lot of other problems.

We do not include timed activities in these events because once you add times or race you need a different insurance. All entrants into the park who will be driving are required to sign the parks indemnity forms. Depending on who is running the event the property owners or a club it is suggested they have insurance

We have our serious competition TKOTR but our other events are all aimed at the family having some fun together.
