TOYOTA 1HZ REBUILD ADVICE

Post by mattmudpig »

Hello, just a word of advice if ever you rebuild a toyota 1HZ engine.

It is extremely important to mount the injector pump with its gear attached into the rear half of the timing cover and check the backlash of each gear , leave the pump mounted before installing the front half of the timing cover as the bearing on the front of injector pump drive gear locates the front cover in the correct axis.

Failure to do this, particularly earlier models will result in the pump being destroyed fast because of the mis alignment between the injector pump and front housing

The pump body is a neat fit in the timing cover and its shaft must align with the centre of the drive gear

I have seen this happen a few times and again recently, particularly on reconditioned engine where the timing cover has been glued on and supplied wuthout injector pump

I hope this helps.

Maybe I have just read it wrong but your post makes no sense to me.

The gear must be attached to the front of the pump and infront of the inner timing cover, after the pump installed into the timing rear cover.

I have seen many times the keyway not aligned properly which causes the issues you have brought up though.
