i have a gq and air locker in the front and lsd in the rear. if i put a locker in the rear would it take some of the strain off the front when both engaged? Therefore not wearing/breaking cv's as much? thanks

I dont think it would make that much difference to wear, unless you want to drive in rear locked 2wd and save the front doing anything at all.
You still get the same power transmitted to the front, its only that the rear is able to assist more effectively than therefore it would be more of a consideration if you wanted positive locking in the rear for ultimate traction.

You get the most use out of 1 locker in the front of most vehicles, I would take a front locker over a rear locker any day. You won't really wear the cvs out more with the locker as you only engage when you require and if you have 35s or under and not driving like you want to kill yourself you really shouldn't be breaking gq cvs

thanks for your reply's very helpful. I was just thinking that obviously a lsd would create more wheel spin than a rear locker anyday. and that slip being transfered to the front therefore putting more strain on the front? Another question, is it worth getting cv's heat treated and the extra collar welded on by someone like YURI offroad or someone like that? does it help that much? I dont drive like i kill myself i try to crawl most things but have broken 2 cv's in 6 months. everytime i break one i replace both. thanks.

What's the set up? Tyre size lift etc, what terrain are you driving, what CVs did you replace with?

gq ute 35's 6 inch lift. 2d xtreme front arms, 3rd's panhard and draglink. 3rds rear control arms. just weekend warrior kind of stuff but been building the truck for a while and got it to this stage so getting into the harder stuff.. not sure what brand they were, dad is in the spare parts game and got em for me. i know there is no need to replace both but if 1 breaks the other might be close so just do it anyway. ill look into the garner ones u talk about lol. would reduction gears help? cheers mate

Reduction gears should help you crawl and so then your less likely to pop a wheel and find something solid to land on, it's this shock load that normaly breaks CVs

yea i realise the whole shock load thing and i do my best to avoid it. cant find the garner cv's do u have a link? or contact details?

the Garner CV's Tiny is referring to can be found on my website.. http://www.bolsys.com.au" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; .. i have sets in stock for GQ ready to go..we (myself and Mick) are also currently working on a chromo upgrade for GQ diffs which will have a warranty (probably two years) something nobody else is offering atm..we are just still developing and testing atm but should be releasing for sale early next year..
