Was only 2 CVs that failed. It was more of a maintance problem but the shocks were where the problem started. It doesnt take alot of mud to ruin a CV. The chrome also wears off TDs real quick aswell. Pre-starts are for pussys

Re: picture of my toughdog shock which let go
Why not contact TD direct (Blacktown NSW) and ask them about the failure?
They have pretty good after sales service and might sort it out for you. When I had a seized adjuster they checked out all four off the car and fixed for free.

They probably realised that you dont take any notice so they ripped you off $600 for a cv,genuine or not with fitting anywhere near $1000 is farkin rediculous, whats even more rediculous is you payed it

Re: picture of my toughdog shock which let go
Lol I didn't pay a cent. Company ute like I said earlier it's the whole shaft that was getting replaced. This is all off topic, the point I was trying to get across is that TDs are no good for a vehicle that does any hard kilometers off road. The failure that the OP has is a common on TDs. There are better options in the market but it seems like everything there is alot of Chinese products being sold for alot more than there worth.

Sounds fairly reasonable to me. Just because you can slap a newie in yourself with a 2nd hand/chinese CV doesn't mean that's the best option for everyonegeorgey wrote:SIMMO84 wrote:Meh, coilover same shit. Shows how much notice I take. Maybe that's why Toyota picks it up before I do.

How do people feel the lovellscompare to the likes of koni/bilstien? Is the price totally relative to quality/performance in these examples?

I got 2-3 weeks ~ 3000kms before a set of dobbinsons lost resistance. In saying all this there has been a set of dobbinsons in the rear of the lux since new ( at a guess)140000 kms old, and still going strong. Maybe it's just front they have problems with.dogbreath_48 wrote:Sounds fairly reasonable to me. Thanks Clanky, I did initially try and find the company details but just got lots of dealer listings. I figured that it would be out of warrenty by now and I don't have a receipt.Clanky wrote:Why not contact TD direct (Blacktown NSW) and ask them about the failure?

Pretty strange to see a truck shock go like that.
I would be asking warranty personally, that kind of failure is a manufacturing defect.

I'll give it a shot and let you know how I went.
Doesn't hurt to try.
Re: picture of my toughdog shock which let go
Had a Pro Comp shock go the exact same way while on the tele track, welded it back up at camp the next day and it lasted the rest of the trip. Pro comp changed it over under warranty when i got back to brissy no questions asked, never had the same problem again on any others.
Re: picture of my toughdog shock which let go
6 years of life i would be saying that is not a problem with the quality of the shock, if the shock had a problem with the weld it would have failed in the first couple of days or weeks , common guys give them a break they are not the best by a long shot but dont you think 6 years on a 4wd is a pretty good run?
I have serviced, dyno'd and used some of the best shocks in the industry and i can assure you, you can break any shock , Kings, Fox, radflow, bilstein, ect ect all can be broken .
Just remember we are talking about a cheap low end shock built for the avarage guy and you cant expect them to go forever.
If you want better look at purchasing a remote res shock and service them regulary.
