Good on you Paul for trying something different and posting it up for scrutiny. Also good on you for at lest attempting some testing, that is a lot more that some of the keyboard experts out there.

All this talk about people dying is great to try and get your point across. But at long as standard safety procedures and common sense are used while winching, this setup failing is no different to a any rope failure using ARB/TJM/etc equipment.

Granted that it is more likely for this to fail and I wouldn't be doing it on my rig.

I would have also thought for the price that alloy would have cost you, there would have been considerable change from building the same in steel, so the saving $$$ I am a little lost on. Normally if you want to do it on the cheap you build it in steel, everything is always very much more expensive in alloy.

Dude I just read under your posts that you owen a 105 cruiser turboed lifted and locked. WHY the hell would you waiset money on that crappy bullbar mod. If your worried about money do what I do and put $50 bucks or $20 bucks a week in a safe place and save up for stuff. I know it sucks and it takes ages but I would rather do that than face a corrinors inquire because you tryed to help someone out a it all went pair shape. personanly I don't care what you do to your self, but because of you stuppidity you could kill someone else. I realy hope you think about that and think it could be your kids or wife or someone you love. use your head and not the little one!!

I really did NOT want to enter into this debate because I Love the whole concept of creating stuff yourself and the pride you get from doing it yourself, but, youve got to think about winching like a bomb. HUH?? well you picture your stuck and I mean really stuck 4b, or in your case wheels wedged and locked etc etc. then you add a winch that loads and loads and loads the whole system to the point of failure! thats kinda a bomb!

If your using plasma and that fails before your bullbar does it wont be a problem (everyone has seen plasma break) If its wire your using and it breaks, it makes a really cool noise and either springs back to the tree or comes through your back or front window smashing it etc etc etc. Not real great,
If your bullbar or something similar comes off, you've just screwed yours and probably someone elses day.
And if there are kids, wives, friends that get hurt then you would deserve all the charges coming your way.

Make up sidesteps, rearbars, other s#@t but dont play games with winches, It will end in tears.

Keep up the fabricating in other areas though, Its great seeing different home made stuff hanging off 4b's (some good, some hmmm interesting)

Just back from the SSS winch challenge at LCMP. Dude you could make a squillion out of this. All the serious players are keen to lose as much weight as you up front.
Campfire talk was all about getting some wicked snatch strap effect off the hybrid crossmember during winching to gain seconds.

This is how i did it on my 100series OEM Alloy "winch Compatible" bar.

Baught a universal winch cradle off ebay, $95 delivered.

then made it fit!

i used 5mm plate on the ends, and there is 3 x 8.8 bolts in either end bolting through the bull-bar chassis bracket.

The bolts go through fairlead, through alloybar, through steel cradle, and into the winch. all sandwiched together

Dude, that thing must weigh a tonne, specially with all those bolts in it.
