G60 suspension

Post by ozy1 »

Oaky, picked up the G60, ive measure the front and rear springs from they eyes of the springs, now what i got was:
rear 1280mm and 50mm wide at the mounts
front 1100 and 50mm wide at the mounts

can somebody please post up some dimensions of MQ springs as i may consider swapping for something a little longerwith some extended shackles to get it flexing

Drive back was pretty good, traveled about 90km/h, with the lowest speed recorded at 60ks, tried to start it today, cleaned the plugs, dained the water from the tank and got it starting, but wont continue to run, but some tuning will help this week.

You have a variety of choices for lift kits in Australia...Tough Dog, Dobinsons, Direct, Ironman and others. They are all in the 1.5-3" range. The best shocks I have used on an old Patrol were Rancho 5000's. There is lot's of shocks available though. The new suspension parts for the G60 are a bit pricy though. And here is something that may be of interest or use when shopping for springs. ALL leaf springs on 60 (G60) series Patrols are the same length...no matter if it is SWB, MWB or LWB.

I know a guy here in the USA who had to find leafs for the rear of his Patrol. His were gone...he tried Chevy S-10 springs, Izuzu springs from Trooper and pickups. I think he finally used some Chevy K-5 Blazer springs but not sure....I could ask him.

If you are building the truck for off-road a SOA would be the way to go as it fairly easy on a G60. A body lift is also real easy to do. Getting a G60 to flex big time with SOA is no problem. I am talking a good 12" of wheel travel....the suspension on G60's is a very basic design so it is very basic to modify it. To make it flex more while stock simply remove front and rear sway bars and also remove the front limiting rods. With longer than stock shocks it will flex at least 4 times more than with all that stuff in there. Be aware though that the truck will handle and perform different with that stuff removed (that is my disclaimer!) ;)
