Hey Guys,
I bought a new winch cable/rope to replace my damaged steel cable on my XD9000.
Got a 28m Dynema rope.
It has a black protector over the rope.
Is that protector supposed to go on the winch anchoring end to protect from the drum and heat OR on the hook/splice end for abraision and UV protection?
Cheers,
Colin,

Mine is on the Hook end of the cable - the theory is I can slide it down to where it might abrade if needed...

Re: Dynema rope fitting
When my mate brought his.instructions said to keep at drum end to protect from drum heat damaging rope. You buy the protector for.the hook end if you want it.tehekho wrote:colinwhirlpool wrote:Hey Guys,

93 RV, 5 in tough dog lift, dobinsons shocks and coils, PA, dual fuel, many many oil leaks and a ton of character.
Re: Dynema rope fitting
I thought the same, you run the protection on the drums first layer to help combat heat & have a 1/2m length at hook end to use on possible abrasive areas.

Re: Dynema rope fitting
Thanks Guys,
I'll follow the advice and fit a sheath to the first layer (I bought a 4m one) and use the shorter one that came with the Dynema rope for the hook end.
