Hilux rear diff options

Post by old lux »

Hey guys

I got a 1985 hilux. I am running 35x13.5xr16 on -28 offset 16x8 rims.

My problem I's tyre clearance. It's really close to the chassis rails.it doesn't rub when sitting nomally bit when it starts to flex it binds really bad. Now I understand I can install a IFS diff housing but I don't think that'll be enough.

I's there any other options?

There is lots of options but depends if you want to do the work...

ifs rear with spacers in the front or hub spacers to suit the width
80' F&Rear
100' F&Rear
Pootrol F&Rear
Many more

I already have new ratios and airlocker in the 8" center only done 1500km so don't want to waste them. I still want it to be leaf sprung. Wheel spacers are "illegal " aren't they?

Yes wheel spacers arent legal.

You could get new rims with a much bigger offset, -44 or bigger.

Theres a guy on here that cut and flips rims cheap. Not sure who though.

Diff housing from current Hilux is the same width as 80 series (4" or so wider than earlier IFS lux rear), same 8" centre as you have, pretty sure it bolts up.
I think there is even one in the for sale section.
