Sub Tank pump problem

Post by Burdy »

Ive had a bit of trouble with my sub tank pump lately as it keeps throughing out the circuit which turns the sub tank light on and prevents me from pumping fuel across to the main tank,ive tried disconnecting the batteries for an hour or so or even just disconnect and reconnect and it worked but now it doesnt even do that the last time i disconnected the batteries it lasted about 10 to 15minutes before the light came back on so does it mean the sub tank pump is rooted or a short somewhere

Yeh, I got sick of that too. Tried everything, checked wiring, nothing.

Went to evilbay and bought a new Carter pump. Problem solvered! And transfers fuel quicker!

Same wiring and switch. Cut the plug off. You'll need a test light for pos and neg wire. Make a bracket to bolt the carter pump to. I used a post stirrup from bunnings, $2.50 just to protect the pump from rock strikes. Bolt this to where the current pump is bolted. Solder/join the two wires on the pump to the current wires, the pump is marked with + and -. The factory switch works, and the auto cuttoff works when the tank is empty! I bought one of these - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/CARTER-BLACK ... 2a0a175515" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Emptys my 75 ltr tank in 12 mins. Pretty quiet with fuel going through, and noisy when dry. Also, rebuildable, you can buy the kits cheap but mine is 5 years old and still going strong.

Those are the "people" that say things like, "I only use genuine nissan" and I'm sure they are shareholders.

Any pump will work. I originaly used a Bosh inline pump from a vl, and it worked fine, have also used a Facet pump.

If it is 12v and has an earth and positive only, then it will work. There are forum members here that also use holley pumps.
