Electric trailer brakes problem

My new trailer has elec brakes.. i have a flash arse controller which works fine....

BUT, if i turn the controller up enough to lock the brakes. the drivers side wheel will lock and not unlock unless i stop and reverse...

Now Ive had the drum apart and its all pretty simple, theres a magnet, which when energised it pulls itself to the drum which in turn pulls the lever that the magnet is attached to and pulls the brake on.

But i can see no reason as to why its locking! I know its not staying energised so its something inside the drum..

any ideas????

Sounds like the pads are on backwards or the spring is binding. Also check the earth on the trailer. I had some weirdness on my car trailer but only 1 of the 4 wheels. Was a pad that was inverted and the spring was binding but only when brakes were applied. Sitting there looking at it and moving the brakes by hand and everything looked fine.

Electric trailer brakes rely on 'Self Servo' action ie once the shoes start to grab, they tend to pull themselves further on. Possibly you have worn shoes which are going too far for the return springs to pull the shoes back after the initial activation. Another reason could be that the return springs are too weak or not even connected.

Try adjusting them up properly first, as they are prone to grabbing when the shoes are worn and go out of adjustment.
Failing that, look for wear or rust (particularly on the drum face where the magnet rubs) on components
Also wheele bearing adjustment.

thanks for the info guys, its def not worn pads as the trailer and brakes are brand new..

I did notice when i had it apart that one of the pins that holds the pad on the backing plate was sitting on the piss a bit.. im thinking the pad may be in the wrong way maybe?

I'll investigate further this weekend hopefully.
