RUF STeering

Post by old lux »

Just wondering guys done a search cant seem to find what i m looking for.

i would like to do RUF to my 96 model duel cab lux. i got EXT shackles so i would like to use them still. i understand i will need to relocate the shackle mount. and extend the driveshaft

but what do i do about sterring? can i use my dropped draglink? obvioulsty my adjustable torque rod will be ok. but steering has me stumped as i dont want to and cant afford HI- STEER at the moment.

cheers cohen.

When you do RUF, its usually about 35mm that the front diff goes forward.

To get the best performance out of the front after RUF, you are much better fitting either crossover or histeer.

The steering setup on live axle Luxs severly limit front end travel.

I no it's best to go hi steer or cross over steering but ATM I can't afford that and don't exactly want to start welding steering boxes on or a dropped front cross member. The main reason I want to go RUF Is so I can rub my 35s without them hitting the rear or the wheel arches

if thats the reason then just redrill your spring perchs, moves your diff around 30mm forward. save your coin for highsteer then go RUF.

That sounds like a good idea. But do you think there I's enough adjustment in my adjustable draglink? ( normally? ) I's there another way? Like cutting and shutting the draglink?

You can buy a shorter draglink specially for a Lux with RUF, its 30-35mm shorter.

I wouldnt trust a chopped and welded draglink. Its a main part of your steering system.

yup just seen that on superiorengineering.com.au

thanks for that dudelux.

i will pass on my original dropped draglink to my father and he can use that for his. is there anything else that i will need for rear up front?

Rear Springs?
Adjustable Torque Rod?
Dropped Draglink(35mm shorter?)
Driveshaft Extension?

Can i Use mY EXTENDED Shackles if i relocate the shackle mount?

How long are the shackles??

Ive got 125mm long shackles, I got them from Buds.

Castor wedges, or dropped crossmember to get the pinion angle happy.

Dont forget that youll need to replace theshocks, and possibly add hoops as youll have more front end travel.

Thats why this mod is best done with histeer/crossover.

Personally, I would save some pennies, buy the histeer kit and then fit it all at once.

i know i should go HIsteer But I Really Dont Want To Start Welding. I Would Like To Keep It As Legal As Possiable And Engineers Cert is Like 2-3 Grand Up here in Darwin.

I Know I Need Castor Wedges Was Going To Wait For Ity To Be Complete So I Know What Degree Wedges i Need.

I Got 2" Extended Shackles So WHatever That Equals. they Are Snake Racing(Kinda Regret Getting Them)

My Shock Should Be Fine Atm Since At Full Extension They Are Longer Then 10 Billys(695mm Total Extended Length.){Outta a YJ Wrangler}

Wont Be Much Of A Angle Forward Will They Only Loving The Bottom 35mm?

cheers for this input everyone

yes hence the adjustability in it, going RUF with a drag link and tourque rod is a big waste of money just go highsteer then your going to spend the coin on that other crap anyways, your best option is to redrill the spring perchs anyone who runs standard j arm steering and RUF is asking for trouble, remember the poor man always pays twice!
