Td42 turbo upgrade to a gt2871 or to4e ????
Td42 turbo upgrade to a gt2871 or to4e ????
hi there i currently have a small turbo setup on a td42 making 12psi, i believe it has a t3 flange on the exhaust manifold, im just wanting to know what would be the better suited turbo for a upgrade, currently have fuel pump mod, would a gt2871 or t04e be better?? inlet manifold is getting done as we speak.. seems to be a lot of conflictig stories here of what people use and dont use because of good and bad points ?? thanks

Re: Td42 turbo upgrade to a gt2871 or to4e ????
hi I would think a GT2871 would be good on this engine, being a roller turbo it wold be less laggy than a T04 turbo
Have one GT2871 on my highly modified GQ, but with the smaller RD28T engine, very good power from around 2000 prm and upwards to around 5000rpm.
Here`s the mods I have:
Bigger turbo, GT2871R.86AR
12mm plunger in the pump, up to 100% more fuel
injectormods, increased pressure to 155ats
big FMIC
custom 3" dump/exhaust
HPC coated exhaust
custom intake (plenum chamber with velocity stacks inside)
3" IC pipes of alloy)
18psi boost
Cold air intake/KN filter
twin thermos
powershot 2000 gas-kit
Exedy racing clutch
VDO Pyro in the dump
and Snow Performance water/methanol kit.
I also have a modified LC80 4.2TD and future plans includes a GT3071, since I use it only on-road,and want power a little higher up. other wise a GT2871 would be good. It allready has Beaudesert 3" turbo-back, more boost, adjusted pump, have bought a big FMIC which is next on the agenda.

Re: Td42 turbo upgrade to a gt2871 or to4e ????
TD05. got two of them.
Got a basic non intercooled one running 12 psi for 111kw with lpg.
the other with different trim and some mods is running 29 psi for something more than 180kw at the wheels straight diesel no gas. Not sure exactly how much power it makes because the dyno cant load it up enough, driven agressively on sealed road it will spin the rears in third if you floor it. Virtually zero lag and its tough as being a bush bearing turbo. you need a modded fuel pump to be doing that though.
United Fuel Injection spec them up to suit your vehicle and driving style.
How much do you want to spend and what is the fuel pump on it now?
