2" Towbar Hitch Receiver Tube

Post by UhhOhh »

Gday,

I'm looking for a 2" I.D. hitch receiver tube for a rear bar I'm making. It is surprisingly hard to find this. The cheapest I could find for a 10" (length) receiver tube is around $85 delivered to Newy. I think that's a little expensive has anyone got a source in Newcastle or someone willing to deliver to Newcastle?

Cheers for any help,
Peter

If you still want that towbar off my brother 4runner, send me a PM mate.
Same price as I said.

I've rung a few wreckers and they seem to add a premium to a towbar if it's the Hayman Reece style with the square receiver I need. Cheapest they want for a second hand one was $100.

If I could get around cutting one to pieces for the receiver I will go that way. I thought they'd be reasonably easy to get for the grey nomad crew who weld a receiver into their bullbar for caravan reversing duties.

Have you explained that you only want the centre hitch, so a mangled bar might be good enough? If it's otherwise only scrap, what would the value be?

Cheers for the suggestions guys, if any of those towbars were near Newcastle I'd bid on them for sure.

I'm more looking to see if there is a supplier of just the receiver tube. Anyone? Please don't make me register on overlander4wd!

I bought one years ago from Bars n racks and it cost me an arm, a left testicle and first born.
The only thing special about that tube is it has had a mandrel pressed into the centre to square it up.
Im keen to know where it can be sourced for a reasonable price too. Much easier than cutting up old towbars.

I haven't measured the one I've got, but I have a towbar off an early 80 series I don't want, (2500kg limit). It came with a rear bar I bought. I'd be happy to cut it off that and send it down to you but I'm not back at work where I left it till next Tuesday. Work account = free to ship as well

I've looked at those too. Just need someone to already have some sea-freight coming in my direction. The fabricated sockets are generally a very loose and ugly fit, the cast ones should be much better.

The cheapest I could find was on amazon.com with delivery from the states it came to $30 for a 6" tube or $45 for a 9". Not sure why there aren't more distributors in Aus, perhaps the laws on making towbars don't create a market. I'm going the impatient option and buying a towbar off dudelux and chopping it down.

Thanks for all the suggestions and offers.
