My GU TB45 Turbo LiLPG Build Thread
Well done. The liquid LPG injection is definately helping there with the power figures compared to a vapour system. !
I remember when liquiphase were developing the dual fuel rail, Liquid LPG - Petrol system for Falcon's and commodore's, and they used to dyno more power & torque on liquid LPG than petrol due to the cooling effect.
I hope your conrods don't succumb to the same fate as mine.

Re: My GU TB45 Turbo LiLPG Build Thread
Haven't done an update for a while thought it was about time.
After having a few warrenty issues whith the auto I've finally got it sorted now and its handling the power great. Fitted some federal muddies a couple of weeks ago and headed down to then victorian high country last week. The trol ran faultlessly in the snow and wasn't slowed down like in past years.
I'm hoping to put a Wolf plug in ecu in it next and run seporate maps for petrol and lpg. Wolf do plug ins for patrols and cruisers that are capable of controling the auto transmisson which is a bonus.
If funds permit I'm on the lookout for a cheap TB48 so I can up the antie in the future.

This thread makes for an interesting read, but I have a couple of questions.
I know your last dyno run in this thread you said you were running 10psi boost and your forsale add says the car has 250,000 kms.
So if you dont mind sharing
1) at what kms did you install the turbo
2) what boost has it mainly run?
3) Have/did you have any concerns for the motor was it sounding a bit worn or anything?
Cheers in advance
Shane
Re: My GU TB45 Turbo LiLPG Build Thread
Hey Nathan! Long time. I see the thread has gone RIP, but just to be sure: Were you running 12psig on standard conrods without an issue?
Re: My GU TB45 Turbo LiLPG Build Thread
it would only do 10 psi on the dyno, but on the road it got to 15. I fitted the turbo with 200,000k's and sold it with 250 000. motor still ran great when I sold it. hope this helps. hopefully turbo a 4.8 soon.

That ought to be a sweet project (TB48). Good luck!drifter** * wrote:it would only do 10 psi on the dyno, but on the road it got to 15. I fitted the turbo with 200,000k's and sold it with 250 000. motor still ran great when I sold it. hope this helps. hopefully turbo a 4.8 soon.
One last question about the intercooler. Im thinking about putting it on top of the engine bay with a scoop. This is why (thank God for copilots )
So, did you fit it on front for any specific reazon or just because it seemed more convenient for you?
Sorry, almost forgot. I had "another last question" Any overheating problems? Mine has the stock radiator and when I punch it for a while the temp goes up fast
Re: My GU TB45 Turbo LiLPG Build Thread
I don't want to open a can of worms but I'd prefer a front mount full of mud than a top mount, you might as well call a top mount an interheater rather than intercooler. How often do you find yourself in the situation in that picture? I find I vary rarely need much power in the bush(only mud really), its at 100klm/h going up a hill towing that I use the power.
As for water temp, other than a faulty clutch fan cutting in at 105deg, the standard cooling system had no problems. Is your clutch fan cutting in? can you hear it?
A 30/76 should spool up nice and early. Which rear housing are using?

Re: My GU TB45 Turbo LiLPG Build Thread
Well, I find myself in situations like that quite often actually, since it is a Trail Rig, and muddy hills is the majority of what we do here. Is the tropics, therefore it ains 9 months out of the year... In fact what I need is help reving up quickly since there are usually tight trails with not much space for momentum and a lot of 110ft+ ditches to go off of if going too fast...drifter** * wrote:I don't want to open a can of worms but I'd prefer a front mount full of mud than a top mount, you might as well call a top mount an interheater rather than intercooler. Fan clutch is working fine, it usually happens with a little help from the mud stock on the radiator's honey comb...
For rear housing Im going with the 1.06 a/r. Considering watter injection for the egt's an timming...
Re: My GU TB45 Turbo LiLPG Build Thread
Hey Nathan, me again As I advance with the project I keep finding little things that you've probably already encounter, so I figured I ask. Thought about swinging by your shop, but the drive from Panama would take me a while, specially with the salt watter thing
As far as injection, did you change the injectors? For what I hear factory dont do too well after 6psi. Also I think I read somewhere something about you swaping fuel pump. Do you mind telling me what that was? And lastly, how did you work out the AFM issue?

What AFM issue are you referring to? It still had plenty of resolution left at 15psi.

drifter** * wrote:its working fine, there's only about 10 wires that need connecting. it comes with a harness and instructions so its pretty easy to do. the only issue i had is it doesn't have an afm preset that's the same as the factory one, but i'll just tune it out or fit a Q45 afm. I've put my trip to WSID off to this wednesday so I'll have to have it tuned by then.
Re: My GU TB45 Turbo LiLPG Build Thread
Was too long ago now so I can't remember. all I know Is I used the factory AFM.

Re: My GU TB45 Turbo LiLPG Build Thread
Thanks for all your help Nathan. I just got the manifold in from the UK and will be ordering the turbo an external wastegate, probably today. Once I get all that in will start figuring out how to rout the piping, intercooler, and the watter injection set up.drifter** * wrote:Was too long ago now so I can't remember. all I know Is I used the factory AFM.
For now will only do 6psi untill I get the $$$ toghether for injectors and ECU. I'll post some pics once I start the works...
