4L60-E manualising
Looking to put an auto in the Patrol, it's running a 304 v8 so obviously I've started looking at 4L60-E 's. question is can the electronic version be easily converted to full manual and not need any computer input.
As I'm led to believe the valve body is controlled by solinoids so could these just be sent signals from the shifter and do it that way
Or am I better of just finding a not electronic version ( pre 93 I think ?) and putting a manualised valve body in.

Re: 4L60-E manualising
Do you already have a 4L60? If not, get an early T700. Same thing but no electronics. Makes easier conversion and easier to manualise. And cheaper too of course.

Re: 4L60-E manualising
No I don't have one personally, but a 96 statesman came up with a 5L and a 4L60E in it running and thought it wouldn't Hurt to score an auto along with a spare motor.BowTieGQ wrote:Do you already have a 4L60? But I'm thinking not, either buy a th700 or get a good one built. Save stuffing around with the wiring.

Re: 4L60-E manualising
I own an auto shop feel free to ask questions , you can manualise the 4l60e just as easy as a 700r4 you just need a transgo shift kit 4 l60e-3 this replaces the pressure control solenoid with a modulator ( for line pressure control) also run a gate shifter these are better for offload than b and m etc and the selector cable is heavy duty, with afew mods to the box you should be right.

Re: 4L60-E manualising
Sorry in advance for the hijack but since your offering advice......... I have manualised t400 with a ratchet shifter, after a short amount of use after it stopped picking up gears, I had bigger issues to sort before this it I'm close to drive train, shifter was new, is it possible or common for shifters to go out of adjustment ie cable stretching? Is it likely the shift kit is the issue or do you think I have bigger issues?Modified Toy wrote:I own an auto shop feel free to ask questions , you can manualise the 4l60e just as easy as a 700r4 you just need a transgo shift kit 4 l60e-3 this replaces the pressure control solenoid with a modulator ( for line pressure control) also run a gate shifter these are better for offload than b and m etc and the selector cable is heavy duty, with afew mods to the box you should be right.

A few things you can check-
1.Check the oil level when running it should be basically at the top of the pan rail when running if not maybe you have wrong dipstick? what does the oil smell like?burnt etc, if unsure overfill a bit and see what happens?
2. Remove one of the oil cooler lines start up vehicle and see if you have flow (this is a easy way to see if the pump is working) Maybe pump got jammed when fitting box did you put the Convertor in the box when fitting?
3. Maybe you had the shifter incorectly adjusted, this is the easyiest way to burn the box up, you should set the shifter up in the D position, so Trans in D and Shifter in D then adjust cable to suit.
If you have no drive or reverse and oil level is ok it will most likly be something major.

Re: 4L60-E manualising
Hmmmmm might be bad then, I had box manualized and shifter fitted by an auto shop, I had previously fitted the auto myself which was purchased as "fully reco'ed" and a brand new low stall 6 bolt converter fitted as its behind a chev oilerModified Toy wrote:A few things you can check-
