Hi there
Got myself a terrano d21 with a td27t in it.
SO far I have turned up the boost and fitted a intercooler.
Its off the road at the moment as I am putting a t25 turbo on it as the old turbo was not making the boost I was after.
Im looking to run about 20-25 psi into it.
I see they change the intake manifolds alot on the td42 and since this is basically the same engine as that with two cylinders missing do you think its worth while doing ??

Is it the model that has EGR fitted, if so rip that junk off, remove the manifold and either hightop it or if using front mount then make appropriate changes to let it breathe mate.wax wrote:Hi there

They can be made to go well.

I had one for a while, I didnt go as far as you but I did run into trouble with the relief valve lifting on the manifold. Bin that too.
I was running 11-12 psi non intercooled.
Big cooler on the auto trans is the go as well, and you will find the radiator is not big enough. Make sure your fan hub and shroud is in good nick.
There is a flap of rubber on top of the radiator support panel which is very important, it pokes forward and touches the bonnet and stops air from spilling over the top. I extended mine a bit with gaffa tape which helped a lot.
small or no lights in front, I cant stress enough the cooling system barely copes. They actually fitted an auxiliary radiator on some of them under the passengers floor.
Great little car, it used to use 8.5 per 100 round town.
Whatever you do I would not put a front mount on it, the radiator is pathetic... Go a top mount and shroud and seal it very carefully.
there is a little butterfly in the intake on some too, once I got mine working right it didnt cause too many problems but you might wish to remove it.
If you need any clearances, tolerances, torques etc let me know, I have the Nissan service manual for the engine.

Since youve changed the amount of boost, have you done anything about more fuel?
By the way you describe it, if you dont have a good egt gauge yet, it might be worth your while getting one.

Yes I have turned up the fuel. I have an oil temp , water temp. egt and a boost gauge.
Its getting a bit hot in the top end at the moment but I am fitting a larger turbo to flow more air to bring the afr closer to the right ratio.

the best change I did to mine was the 2.5 inch mandrel bent exhaust.
Don't disconnect the wastegate, all you will do is overspeed the turbo and make heat.
If you have somewhere to put it an oil cooler is an excellent idea, there should be heaps of room for a sandwich plate on it.
Also the standard air filter housing is pathetic, a bigger filter box would be a very good thing, A VN commodore one would be a good option but forget about dual batteries with it.
the standard air intake from inside the guard is a big choking point. at the smallest point... well... how do I put this...A well used vagina is larger. You'd be lucky to fit three fingers in it.
I ran a duct from the filter to above the passengers headlight and cut that section of the grille out.
Don't disconnect the wastegate, all you will do is overspeed the turbo and make heat.

Thats good information thanks. Yeah your right on the turbo over speeding I think thats helping my egts climb. Good to know about the exhaust as it goes in for the new one next week on account of the bigger turbo

Got a gearbox that can take more? I asked a while back if a TD42 gearbox would fit a TD27, but never found the answer.
