im thinking about putting a 3b with a turbo in my 40 in the future, but iv heard the 3b does around 3500 revs at 100kmh with the 4 speed, so would it make the motor get hot cause the turbo is spooling non stop (im new to this diesel business)

with the 5 speed does the original handbrake fit as well??

any help would be awesome

do the 5speeds come with a handbrake on the back of the transfer?

The motor will get hotter but properly set-up it won't worry it. You'll have to keep an eye on your cooling system. From memory you don't have an evaporator in front of your radiator so that should help at least on the highway and up the beach.

I've had a 3b (42) and a 3b with an aftermarket turbo (73) running around 5-6psi could hardly tell the turbo was on it so don't expect much gain. Personally I would save the turbo dollars and fit the 5 speed first and stick to 32's or smaller.

I still loved both 3b powered rigs i had, reliable and run on the smell of an oily rag three states away!

Landcruiser 4 speeds have a 1:1 ratio in 4th gear. Assuming you have 4.11:1 ratio final drives and 33 inch tyres, regardless of engine you put in, the input shaft is still required to spin at ~2600rpm @ 100km/h. Even with 31's at 100km/h the 4 speed will only spin at 2775rpm.

A 5 speed will reduce the revs required by about 15%. 3.9:1 ratios will also lower the revs as per the examples above.

Also if you are planning to replace just the petrol engine, you WILL need to replace the gearbox as the 'B' series engines use a different input shaft length.
