want to build a wide track hilux diff

Post by DAZ »

I want to make a wider hilux front diff. I can get a 60 series front diff for bugger all do the axels in hilux and landcruiser share the same spline?

what is the cheapest way to make a wide track hilux front diff?

4.8 diffs are cheap and easy to get for hilux

Thanks Darren

If you run the IFS rear housing, which is wider than the SAF housing.
Im not 100% on how to widetrack the front, but its something to do with IFS hub spacers.

Aza has just done this to his new Lux, I know of a few other Lux guys that have done it too, I know Ashleybmx has done it.
Maybe have a read through the build ups section to see what they did.

from what i can figure out the wide track kit involves using IFS hubs as the wheel offset on the hub is further to the edge.

the spaces just spaces the rotor back to original specs i think you gain roughly 3" total

Fitting the 60s diffs should be no drama either DAZ, as you can get them cheap.
Theres a thread about fitting 60s diffs under a Luz here on page 1 of Yota Tech too.
I think it said the 60s long side is the same length, but the short side is longer than a Lux.

This is the go it fits the landcruiser diff too I did it to mine. You buy ifs 4 runner hubs and buy the rotor spacer from marks 4wd or I think buddy sells them too for cheaper. The face the wheel mounts to is 33mm a side further offset to the outside and the spacer puts the rotor back inline with the caliper. It does increase the scrub radius and affect the steering like having bad caster, but running a little more toe in fixes it.

You can always just throw the 60 front diff complete under there as it's already the correct width, same as IFS rear diff ;)

Will have a bigger front pumpkin but if you intend to punish it, that's not a bad thing.

have considered that but petrol hilux diffs offer better diff clearance and 4.8s. Im wondering if i just reverse and off set a set of rims it is not going to be a road registered 4b

sleeve the ends and run longer axles maby? We did this on the FJ45 on 60s axles. Lengthened the short side. Makes it same as an 80 but with 10" Cw&p

cruiser and lux axles are the same spline count, not sure about the diff end though.

The FJ45 runs a custom length axle from longfeild, 30spl. Cost $230 by memory
