Hilux injector pump???

Post by inbits »

Hey guys

I picked up my hilux last Saturday

Before I bought it I spent a good hour going over it and I was happy.

Today before I left to go out I started it up ( 2.8 diesel ) when I came back out there was a big puddle of diesel under it and a steady drip running from the injector pump onto the sump and them on the driveway anyway I left to go out and when I got to my destination the leak had stopped. There was no sign of leaking all week and when I inspected it.

My question is why would it leak so suddenly and as bad as it did and why did it stop?

I also wanted to know where and how much I could source a seal kit
And is a 2.4 injector pump compatable with the 2.8

Cheers

very common with low sulphur diesel inbits! type in a search on google and you will see what i mean.
be carefull if you attempt to fix the leaky seal yourself, make sure you index mark everything you take off ,
otherwise you could be up for a full pump rebuild anyways . Even one little spline missalignment with give you a no start diesel and you will be scratching your head wondering why!

I'm a mechanical fitter do it shouldn't be too much trouble but I always mark and photo stuff as I go just to be sure
I found the seal kits for 69 dollars how do you avoid low sulphar diesel?

And does the 2.4 pump fit as I have access to one of them

At a guess they are the same pump, and am pretty sure they bolt up. Someone here should confirm this.

With the seal kit you have better seals than oem which are resistant to the effects of low sulphur diesel so the problem shouldn't repeat.
What do we want? TIME TRAVEL! When do we want it? THAT'S IRRELEVANT!

Just make sure the new seals are the Viton ones.
the 2.4 pump will work but if you were going to the hassle of pulling the pump out, i would just throw in a fuly recoed one
that way you know damn sure its going to last without leaking!!!

I'd love to throw a new Pump in the old girl but I just can't afford it at the moment so that's why I'm trying to keep cost down thing is if I can use the 2.4 pump with out any drop in performance I can do the rebuild and then install it once it's ready to go
