Re: LANDCRUISER HJ61RG SAHARA
Rust is the big problem in the 60. In the roof sill mostly.
Some parts such as the motor and gearbox are expensive if they need an overhaul.
Usual wear in the tailshaft slip joints. Front double cardan (if it has one) can be expensive to replace.
Leaky front knuckles are a regular issue.
How many kms and how its been treated will determine what needs to be done.

Can't help with Auto Question. But my 2 bob is to look if it is a 24v or 12v electrics. The 24v are nothing but trouble when trying to replace parts are add gear.

Re: LANDCRUISER HJ61RG SAHARA
The auto box is pretty solid.Kick down cable adjustment is very important as it also controls the upshift. An aftermerket trans cooler would be advised as heat is the major killer of auto boxes and the 60 series is no exception.
Up grades for the box are available but are expensive. The auto box in standard trim gives good service and is not a weak point to worry about.
the 24 volt is not so much of a problem as convertion to 12volt is pretty easy and not overly expensive.

Re: LANDCRUISER HJ61RG SAHARA
i wouldnt convert it to 12volt.
Everything you want can be had in 24volt, and if it cant you can get 24 to 12volt converters pretty cheap now.
24volt is far superior to 12volt for almost everything except the whole 2 battery thing(expense)

Re: LANDCRUISER HJ61RG SAHARA
When I was looking for a 12HT 89 model Sahara with Auto all of them had a gearbox rebuild at 200,000klm. The auto shop I spoke to said it was common. Rebuild price always worked out at about $400. The one I purchased had 228,000 klm on it & the auto box had been rebuilt. It might be a good idea to have that looked at first. Mick

Sorry , My Bad, should have proof read before posting. It was too early in the day to use the excuse "Drunk in charge of a key board" Left off a 0. Should have read $4000 for a rebuild. Mick
