G'day guys. I know I'm asking about the patrol transmission cross member but I hoped there might be some great ideas out there from other trucks.

It looks like I'll be fabricating up a new transmission cross memeber on my truck so I'd like to engineer the problem of the front drive shaft hitting it at full suspension drop on the front. I know people have just cut a section out of the factory cross member then welded a scollup into the gap but has anyone run the cross member above the drive shaft to maybe the top of the chassis rail instead of the bottom? I know this wouldn't be very practical when removing the gear box but other than that it seems simple enough.

What do you guys think?

have you thought of not using the factory rubbers to the gearbox mount and instead using a bush style arrangement. I guess they would need to be compact to not inpeed in your ramp over clearance. this style may allow for extra mounting points for belly pans and or slider mounting options. When mounting my engine I used 40mm ID pipe, 5/8 hydraulic pipe as a crush sleeve and 75 series shackle rubbers.

to build the mounts cost me less than 20 dollars in new bolts and rubbers, (I had the steel and pipe already). Nice and cheap, works well and replacement parts can be found anywhere in australia.

Yeah. If I go with the C4 auto I'll be fabbing up new mounts anyway. I'm more interested in making a mount that will give the front drive shaft clearance. I'm thinking of making a cross member that runs above the drive shaft instead of below it. Just seeing if anyone has already done this and how they did it.

Hey Steve when I was looking into this for twin sticks the easiest way I found was to eliminate the transmission cross member.

Buds customs do a plate that picks up the bolts on the transfer bolts.

Bartso ran just the transfer mount and engine mounts.

Running 5litre and twin sticks on 44inch boggers

Yeah. The adaptor kit for the Atlas has a mount as part of it and the adaptor is round so you can angle the mount how ever you want to. I guess I just need to line it up and have a bit of a think about it.

we kept bending the gq crossmember in our comp truck so we removed it all together, made up a new crossmember the mounts with gq control arm bushes to the rails, on the driver side the mount goes up and over the tail shaft,

i dont have any pics im sorry, imagine a mount shaped like this > o--v^o original gear box mounts mount solid into the v

yeah. Thats what I was thinking. I can probably go over the transmission as well because you can rotate the mount that is attached to the transfer adapter.
