needed general info and advice about line locks

The time has come now when I have finally gotten the shits with the handbrake on my 80.been looking into line locks as they are really the only cost effective way to improve handbrake.I understand that my normal handbrake must operate for road worthy however id like to be able to park the car on hills.

I know what line locks are and what they do but will they hold and for how long is the question ie would I be safe to park my car at my mother s in the driveway which is a40 degree incline overnight using line locks and standard handbrake.at the moment the handbrake will not hold..

I would say no! They loose there hold over extended time, plus you have to have constant power to it.
My 105 handbrake was shiat house aswell, got it adjusted up all sweet haven't had an issue since!

It depends on which line lock. The 1 I used to use was on/off/on. Meaning in what ever possition it was left in, it would stay there no constant power. And no it wasnt a stall line lock. But a propper hydrolic lock. Only problem is Im having trouble finding the same 1 these days. Because I want it on the new truck.

Pump the brake to desired pressure. Flick the switch and thats where it stayed. Its also a great antitheft device.

Mate it is a piece of piss to adjust handbrake and if done properly it will hold, your biggest killer is muddy water, avoid it where ever possible and thoroughly rinse your brakes after each wheel. Put it in low range and you can be confident she will hold.

my handbrake (100 series) is always shit after a big trip

just needs a good clean and adjust and it holds great again.

Been cleaned twice brand new pads and rotors and adjusted by toyota and independent mechanic and by myself a total of 6 times using 3 different posted methods 2 of which have come from outers.

Yes putting it in gear will hold it but don't want that sort of pressure on the box.

Did it hold after being adjusted. Its not a do once and its good forever you will need to do every 3-6 months depending how often you venture off road and if you forget to take the hand brake off sometimes like I do . When I was getting my car serviced by a mechanic for warranty reasons he would adjust it for me each time without being asked, he was a nice bloke.
You do leave it in gear when parked but don't you.

Always leave manuals in gear when parked probably the first thing drilled into my head when learning to drive. And yes I know it needs constant maintenance but is going soft after 1 week of road driving ie no dirt roads, no rain even. Its just shite. No handbrake should need maintenance that regularly. Dads 75 only needs adjusting every year, my old ea falcon never needed adjusting in 2.5 years and my old ba falcon (same rear brake setup) only once in 3 years after it.edu adjusted properly. Maybe its my pads obviously some are worse than others maybe mine are a harder compound can anyone recommend ones with a soft compound that work well. Have also toyed with the idea of putting a disc on the transfer flange and having a pin mounted that slots into a cutout which would stop it for.sure provided I had secure mounting for the lever.

Oh and no it doesn't have a new handbrake cable so the cable isn't stretching. It always holds when first adjusted but gradually gets worse over the.period of a week till it won't hold ming you this is a steep hill but still it should hold.

Are the springs in the handbrake had it so its not fully retracting, alot of stuffing around i know but it may be alot cheaper than an aftermarket option, saying that i have thought about it.

Ther is a heap more pressure applied to the box in normal driving. You are overloading the handbrake by making it do all the work. Leave it in gear and pull the handbrake. If you don't leave it in gear then let me know where your mum lives and I will make sure that I don't park in that street. Ever.

As mentioned is always is gear and steered into the gutter if possible.
