Diesels are known for being gutless on the road, but they are all torque, which makes them awesome for off road stuff.
Petrols dont have the torque that diesels do, but they are better onroad.

Is the diesel a solid axle?? If its a solid front axle, that would be the winner, for me anyway.

The later model V6 lux any day of the week mate. Unless you intend to modify the diesel hilux the later model lux will beat it off road too in stock form or close to it. The only thing going for the diesel lux is reliability and strength (even that's debatable given the age difference). Driveability, comfort, handling, performance basically everything is in the 03 luxes court between these two.
What do we want? TIME TRAVEL! When do we want it? THAT'S IRRELEVANT!

The Diesel he's mentioned is a Turbo so it won't be *too* gutless. My '94 2.8TD goes fine on the road with 32" tyres. Holds 110kph on the highway.
I would say if you are going to be buying a daily driver over a weekend toy the later model would be better, mainly for the eason mentioned above already, solid axel's not exactly a comfortable ride.

Yeah there are heaps of online scams around these days. Usually the poor spelling and grammar give them away. I came accross a nigerian based scam while looking for my Hilux. Also got heaps of dodgy text's when selling a car recently.
