Info on high flowed turbos

Re: Info on high flowed turbos
depends on your power target, ig you're looking for a lot the 2860 is the wrong way to go.
Re: Info on high flowed turbos
I just want a bit more then what i have now. It is putting out 140hp at the wheels, would like to get round the 170 maybe 180 mark. I just don't wanna go a bigger turbo and end up with a heap of lag. Do you think this is achievable?
Re: Info on high flowed turbos
You'll need a new turbo ballbearing turbos are not rebuildable well Garret only rebalance them when they feel like it.

Re: Info on high flowed turbos
I run a united fuel td05 20g great turbo for Wat your wanting an 18g or 16g would be good . If your looking at getting pump mods and a Turbo give diesel central in rocky a ring. Best diesel performance shop in qld. They also sell united fuel turbos..

Re: Info on high flowed turbos
You should be able to make that hp with the turbo you have.
You won't get much more than 170-180hp from the stock pump anyway.

Re: Info on high flowed turbos
What sort of boost am i going to need with this turbo to get that tho i am already running 15psi?
Re: Info on high flowed turbos
Not only are you going to need more than 15lbs you will need more fuel as well.
Re: Info on high flowed turbos
18-20psi.
But you will need (or get someone) to have a play with the pump.
130 odd rwkw is acheivable with the 2860rs and a well setup pump.

Re: Info on high flowed turbos
so could you get that much power out of a natural engine (running more than 14psi) or will it destroy pistons/rings?
Re: Info on high flowed turbos
tye1986 has done it so has MikeH, both with alot more boost too.
It depends on how hard you lean on it though.

Re: Info on high flowed turbos
hey tye1986
when does your td05 with the 20g wheel start to make some decent boost?
i've got a united fuel td05 with 16g on it and was thinking if i ever go over 18-20psi i should put a bigger compressor on it.

Re: Info on high flowed turbos
I have a standard HT18 on my GQ. 3" exhaust and a built GQ pump making a dyno'd 139 rwhp. The pump was built by swaffie and he informs me it will do 170rwhp with the right turbo. 3071.
Re: Info on high flowed turbos
far out tye1986 that's ok how advanced is your pump and can you see though the smoke out the back.

Re: Info on high flowed turbos
So the td05 with the 20g wheel is the bigger one what sort of comparison to what i have now? and is it a bush or ball bearing turbo?
Re: Info on high flowed turbos
I have a 14mmsafari plunger Swaffie special pump it runs pretty clean.
They are a journal bearing turbo. There similar size to a 3071. Ufi modify them quite a bit to get them to work this well.

Re: Info on high flowed turbos
How much would this sort of kit cost to get done roughly?
Re: Info on high flowed turbos
Do you mean pump an turbo?. you will have to upgrade ur intercooler to wouldn't expect change from 6k if you do the work yourself (fitting everything).

Re: Info on high flowed turbos
Mudders make a real loud howling noise on dry road as the tread blocks walk when you floor it at 70kph in third. It sounds like the diff pinion bearings are letting go. The car leaned inward on right hand corners if you drove it hard. Currently its in bits, going for more with a properly built turbo engine.forkcy wrote:you must struggle hard to get traction in the wet
Re: Info on high flowed turbos
Yeah something like what you have? Does your truck still have plenty of torque down low tho? And what power is your truckactually makingtye1986 wrote:Do you mean pump an turbo?. you will have to upgrade ur intercooler to wouldn't expect change from 6k if you do the work yourself (fitting everything).
Re: Info on high flowed turbos
Old truck standard silver top motor made 195rwkw with a badly slipping clutch an yes they do have plenty of torque. My new car im hoping for over 200.
Im trialing a plasma man water to air cooler as well will have results shortly.

Re: Info on high flowed turbos
Hi, just wonder if you know, roughly, how many NM of torque at the flywheel, your 200Rwkw truck has, or your old truck? , just looked at the power/torque figures on the newest 4.2TDI Touareg and it`s 335hp and 800nmtye1986 wrote:Old truck standard silver top motor made 195rwkw with a badly slipping clutch an yes they do have plenty of torque. interesting to follow you guys and I am impressed by the power these TD42 engines puts out
Re: Info on high flowed turbos
Most of these combos that the experienced tuners are putting together are making between 750- 810Nm of torque at between 2000-2300.vn15 wrote:Hi, just wonder if you know, roughly, how many NM of torque at the flywheel, your 200Rwkw truck has, or your old truck? , just looked at the power/torque figures on the newest 4.2TDI Touareg and it`s 335hp and 800nmtye1986 wrote:Old truck standard silver top motor made 195rwkw with a badly slipping clutch an yes they do have plenty of torque. Most will over accelerate rollers on power runs, but when measured at steady state load up numbers and back calculated thats what they make.
HAving seen first hand cranks that have had the rear of them twisted off we may be getting to the point of torsional strength in the crank and there are a few builds going together with different cranks.
