just wondering has anyone fitted a 3.9 or 4.0 litre falcon motor into rangie and wondering about bellhousing compatibility on the borg warner auto's

I think the consensus is its too long, otherwise its a nice motor with plenty of torque and now the turbo versions is available quite cheaply. When I had my mates xr6-t sitting in the same garage as my disco I went to it with a tape measure but it would have required quite a bit of work including, moving the radiator, and giving the firewall a bash. Also isn't the borg warner the transfer case? The transmission being the TF727 or something like that.

Yes it has been done , and is a pretty simple conversion the engine will fit but need to run electric fans ,
as for gearbox adaptor for the zf not sure as the conversion i have seen was running the 3 speed ford box which did come standard in some rangie's

Lots had a borgwarner 35 auto, it was a conversion done by i think Ritters.

I still have a bw35 on a lt95 from Ritter out of my Range Rover.

The early factory fit transmissions were the TF7727's, and I guess there must be a few of the Ritters conversion floating about from what the others say, before the factory auto's came out.

i have heard of the 4.1 x-flow motor conversion but never the ohc 4litre done making it fit isnt a issuse just the bell housing is a worry

if your using the ea-au motor and using the bw35 (ritters conversion) get hold of an ea 3spd gearbox, these are a bw55 and very simmilar to the bw35. the 35 can be upgraded with 55 bits and the bellhousing should interchange.

Not that sure that Ritters actually did any BW 35 conversions.
They certainly did C4/9 autos grafted onto a chopped LT95 TC which are beautifully engineered.
The only BW conversion I have seen was crudely stuffed inside a LT95 gearbox and needed custom driveshafts, gearbox mounts moved back about 6", etc.
If a C4/9 with a Ford bellhousing will bolt up to a 4.0 six then go for one of those real Ritter combos, i.e. fit the trans, bolt on the motor and then work out your engine mounts.
FWIW I have a Ritters C9 / LT95 combo behind a 350 with standard driveshafts in a 74 RRC, standard trans mount points, etc. Easy to do and cheap to make strong.

you can get a c4 to 4.0 six conversion bellhousing but its not an original part, not sure that its ritters but i have seen a bw35 conversion in a rangie, probably not the best box to be choosing for a conversion though

You can use the ford auto(4 speed would be easiest) and adapt that to a transfer case.
Its not cool, unless it's got boost :)
