turning up Boost on d40
turning up Boost on d40
Hi im new to this sight and I own a 2008 diesel Nissan Navara D40.
I am fitting a boost gage this weekend and I was going to fit a boost controller and turn up the boost 1or 2 psi but in unsure of what will happen.
Will the ECU let me?
Will the diesel ramp up with extra boost or will I lean out the motor ?
Is 1 or 2 psi safe for my 2.5 Lt engine?
I haven’t made any other mods to the vehicle
Has anyone tried this, can anyone tell me what will happen.
Thanks

Re: turning up Boost on d40
duno y you'd wanna up the boost they run around 20-22 psi standard, a mate has a d40 rx 2.5 and put a boost gauge on it the other week and its up around that good luck with it tho
Re: turning up Boost on d40
You are going about it the wrong way. On a mechanically injected diesel you would up the boost and fuel to get more power. On a common rail diesel you would normally fit a chip, larger exhaust and possibly a better intercooler to increase the power. At the very least a larger exhaust will allow it to spool a bit quiker.
Have a search for for chips that suit your vehicle, start with Chip it, Steinbauer.
All a boost guage will show you is what boost you are running, for your vehicle the most important guage would be an Exhaust Gas Temp guage, this will show you how hard you are working the engine and give you an indication of when you need to back off.

Thanks you've given me some great info and the chip it web sight looks like they do some good work. I will do some more research now I'm heading in the right direction.
Dose anyone have an idear on what size exuast would be good for my D40 3" or 3.5"
??

Re: turning up Boost on d40
You can use a simple pneumatic bleed valve on the map sensor to increase boost pressure.
Unless the chip you use has a boost control function, it is a very good idea to manually lift the boost 2-4psi to help burn the extra fuel your putting in.

Re: turning up Boost on d40
Hi thanks for that info. Can anyone tell me if I put a chip upgrade in my nevara d40 stx turbo deisel will it be safe for the car? Or are these upgrades only to bring up the rx or St models to the stx standard / kwatts ? Has anyone put a chip on an stx also can anyone tell me is there much benefit in power gained from increasing the exhaust size and putting a larger intercooler in? Does the design of the intercooler matter or am injust wanting to put a bigger inter cooler in? Thanks
Re: turning up Boost on d40
i'm pretty sure you'll find the power levels on all Navara's is the same, doesn't matter which model you've got.
How much power are you hoping to achieve?

Re: turning up Boost on d40
there are variants in the navara they have one with an output around the 128kw mark then a high output option which goes to 140kw then in the top of the line you can get the 3.0 v6 turbo diesel with 170kw and 550 nm. some of the chips may offer some sort of warranty on the engine with the upgrade but just putting the chip in you should still be within the limits of the motor

Well there ya go, learnt something new todaynissannewby wrote:there are variants in the navara they have one with an output around the 128kw mark then a high output option which goes to 140kw then in the top of the line you can get the 3.0 v6 turbo diesel with 170kw and 550 nm.
why would they have a standard and high output option?
or is it just an auto to manual difference?
Re: turning up Boost on d40
that might be the diff im not completely sure but i know there is atleast the 2 variants in motor
Re: turning up Boost on d40
There are different motors hence different outputs. There is the 3.0 cr v6 in the top of the range 550s. Then the 2.5 cr 4 in the all the other d40s. There is also a different common rail in the d22s

Re: turning up Boost on d40
But is there a power difference for the 2.5's other than between manual and auto?gudge wrote:There are different motors hence different outputs. There is the 3.0 cr v6 in the top of the range 550s. Then the 2.5 cr 4 in the all the other d40s. There is also a different common rail in the d22s
Wouldn't mind giving one of those v6's a spin
Re: turning up Boost on d40
There are 3 levels of tune just in the D40 range for the YD25 engine. Single cab 106kw, king & dual cab 126kw(was 128kw But lost 2kw in 2007 due to emission standards) & spain built ST-X 140kw. The transmission makes no difference to the level of tune its just the different models & where they are built. Just for interest the YD25 in the D22 has 96kw.
Also some have a waste gate turbo & some have a VGT.
Cheers.

Cool thanks for that banger!
Re: turning up Boost on d40
Has anyone put a chip on a D40 ST-X ??
Re: turning up Boost on d40
There are two ways to get more power out of a commonrail engine like these.
1. Remap. This involves someone plugging into your ECU, pulling the factory program out, modifying it and loading it back in. The results depend on how good the tuner is and can range from engine destroying to good and safe power improvements.
2. Tuning box. This involves plugging something in between the ECU and engine to fool the ECU or injectors into delivering more fuel. These generally have no safety features and can easily damage your engine. Most people get away with it fine, some don't.
With both you are paying your money and taking your chances. Not only with the engine, but everything else in the driveline. How is your clutch and dual mass flywheel?
