Custom Sliders in Sydney?
Hi all,
I am struggling to find any posts relating to this topic!
I did a bit of damage to my Paj last weekend and am getting it fixed through insurance (meeting with assessor next week). However there is no point getting the sills and lower doors repaired if I dont get a set of sliders made...
Being an 89 LWB Pajero I have zero options off the shelf. I am currently looking in the states and have a contact in Melbourne but thought I would throw a line out and see if there were any fabrication places that know how to make decent sliders in Sydney.
Any replies would be appreciated!

Re: Custom Sliders in Sydney?
Struth off here has some sliders to suit a Paj in the classifeds.
I know hes in Melb, and you said Sydney.
Otherwise if you know someone with a welder, get them to make some up for you. They dont seem to be too hard to make, if you have some fab skills and tools.
I think this is what most guys will do.
As far as fab guys in the Sydney area goes, try Black Bull Offroad out at Nth Richmond(contact Black Bull on here), RDG Engineering, somewhere towards to bottom suburbs of Sydney, M and M Engineering at Windsor(if they are still around), possibly Overkill Engineering in the Hornsby area(if he has sorted himself out), Mitchell Bros at Brookvale, Seldom Seen Customs at Camden, Lukeys Custom 4x4 at Llandilo.
Those are just the ones I can think of right now, Im sure there is more, but give some of those guys a try, good luck.

If you are getting the sliders off struth, I am probably getting two sets of GQ sliders sent up, could make the transport a bit cheaper.

Re: Custom Sliders in Sydney?
Thanks for the replies fellas. Those sliders to suit an NJ look good, however there is a big risk angles/anchor points/protrusions etc are off for my model and I risk needing to substantially mod it. Macquarie 4x4 charge an arm and a leg! over a grand! Glad I dont have a late model fourbie but still, that is a lot of money!
I am just wanting to go somewhere that has made them before, and knows how to make a strong yet relatively lightweight slider that looks like it was meant to be there!
Ill start ringing those other places over the weekend.

Re: Custom Sliders in Sydney?
Milo is a fabwhore, honestly he is.
He will fab up anything, for anyone.
Hes up the mountains, so not really that far from you, and he makes some good stuff.
I think if he ever retires from his business of farming midgets, he could make quite a good living out of fabbing.
He would probably charge you for whatever materials are used, plus rum on the top. But youd have to ask him for confirmation on that.
If you dont have the skills or tools to make them yourself, and dont want to pay lots for the sliders, Milo is a great option. And his midgets are good for a larf too.

Re: Custom Sliders in Sydney?
If Macquarie were building them off a pre-designed jig i'd say yeah that's a little over the top. But having done stuff like this i'd say that if they're building them to a vehicle as custom each time, there's a LOT of time involved even with something as simple as sliders. You're constantly measureing, trimming, trial fitting, trimming again and again and again. that's if you want to do a good job that is. Without knowing what a shop's over heads are i couldn't say if that's a good price or not. But i can say that you will always be able to do it a LOT cheaper than a shop if you do it yourself and only pay for materials because your own time is free by comparison.awbeattie381 wrote:Thanks for the replies fellas. I've seen Struth's work and to be honest, if you were to ring him and he were able to put them up against a pajero in your model to make sure they fit i'd say they're not a bad buy. He's used decent tube in it which is more expensive than the schedule pipe that some people use for a start.
P.S. Pics of munted sills or ban

By the time you've paid for the rum, wouldn't it be cheaper to go to Macquarie?DUDELUX wrote:He would probably charge you for whatever materials are used, plus rum on the top.

its a waste paying Milo with rum. It ends up as a puddle of chunks on the ground a couple of hours after he drinks it

as for munted sills, get the grinder out and hack out and replace said munted sill with solid sill/slider/side step

Don't fall for Milo's charms awbeatie. He's just trying to lure you into the dungeon. He's never actually suceeded in keeping anyone there. His midgets are kind enough to let you out after a few hours.

If you get Milo to do a boat side for you then make sure you have a truck load of bog to fill in all the holes he will burn through the metal. He's only used to welding inch thick metal.

Jesus wept, what is this? Sucker punch the OL member day?
Although you're right steve, screw working with sheet metal. I think if the OP really wants to protect his sills we should look at Tek screwing some timber under there.
Or direct him to his nearext XRO retailer.

Re: Custom Sliders in Sydney?
sill not as munted as you are probably all guessing (might post a pic tomorrow). I did need a sledge hammer to allow the door to open and close freely again though. Have meeting with assessor tomorrow. hopefully I get the ok for repairs. Cant wait to get some sort of slider made up. I am chatting with Milo. I like his enthusiasm. Might be a couple of days spent in the mountains with a turkey...(wild).Should I be worried??? lol

Re: Custom Sliders in Sydney?
its not much really, but is getting repaired next week. Only $2k worth of damage. Obviously only paying the excess...
This is just before it happened. The earth wall damaged the drivers side doors and where the front right tyre is in this photo is where the sill was bent.

Or his tail lights having an intimate affair with the dirt wall beside the trail - Cue music "Crunchy Crunchy Granola Suite"
A weekend wheeling with me and Dave goes something like this -
Me (with comp truck) - Looks like a gnarly trail Dave. You should go first.
Dave (with streeter) - Erm.....Ok
Me (quietly) - Sucker!!!
