Long range tank compliance.

One of the items I am putting on the Patrol when I release it in a couple of months, is a Long Ranger 145 litre main tank. I have got quotes from ARB and TJM, and both have mentioned getting the vehicle compliance checked. I have not heard if this before. And I have long range sub tank that I fitted myself a couple of years ago. Anyone any ideas what its about, or is it just another money grab by the Qld Govt.

Dunno. Both tanks are engineered construction wise and built to meet adr's, iirc the LRA tanks in mine came with a letter stating they met these requirements.
I'd go back to ARB and TJM and ask them what they are referring to and what is the process.

Most likely a money grab but when i had my engine conversion engineered, I noticed in the codes he was allowed to verify was fitment of an aftermarket fuel tank.

I asked, and he punched the code after confirming tank was manufactured by a name (i presume with AS qualifications etc) and subsequently went through transport with a "complied" fuel tank.

Did a bit of digging. Yes, a mod plate is required. The mod code is LM, required for modified, repalcement, or additional fuel tanks.

I bought my 80 last year and it came with a replacement second tank (LRA I think) and it passed roady for transfer of rego and I haven't seen a blue plate anywhere. I will have a bit of a look when I get home. I bought it off a guy without much idea (he had only owned it for 6 months) and he had the rego done at "the servo up the road". The tank uses all factory fittings for filler and gauge etc so maybe old mate at 'the servo up the road' didn't realise it wasn't factory.

Doesn't explain why there was no plate when the tank was first installed though.

It'd be a recent thing. I pitted a hilux in 2005 that I put a 2" body lift in to fit a long range tank. They checked the lift out and never mentioned the tank or plated the car - just the usual body lift paperwork.

from memory the mounts are checked when you put in larger fuel tanks, check that they can handle the extra weight, read that somewhere, like 4wd action, or in one of their many dvds.

In theory at least, at some point (allegedly this year, but allegedly last year before that and so on for about the last decade) VSB 14 will be adopted and become the relevant standard, the section regarding fuel system modifications is available here

the rwc license is different to the mod plate license. Heaps of cars get rwc that should have mods plated but the rwc guys just turn a blind eye in some cases. But as above yes it should be plated.
