Newbie to Comps.
Thought I would start this here as it seemed as good a place as anywhere on the forum to ask.
I am almost up to finishing my lux to a standard where I see it deemed fit for competition use (albeit in a low grade). Now where to start, and what to do.
What comps are good starters and what comps have catergories that would accomodate a twin locked lux on 33's (possibly 34 JT's).
Any info would be great, feel free to fire questions back at me...

Combo of both really,
I like the style of the Q-Rock events where its down to driving shortish stages. The footage of Woodpecker looked great and was the style of driving I like.
The Vic Winch stuff would be fun too, but it seems the winch challanges (like Vic Winch, are big on horse power etc something I dont have in a little lux)

I wouldnt worry to much about your final place or horsepower in the Vic winch or other comps at this stage as most of the people you will be competing with will have more time behind the wheel than you, use these comps as a means of getting some experience and dont worry about your placing, it is also important that your winch person knows how the handle the cable safely without knocking up to many penalties so the experience is also usefull for him aswell. You will find the difficult part getting into comps as most of the time its who you know so put your name down and if you dont get in offer your time as a marshall so you can get your name known around the tracks, it is also a good way to pick up experience, watching other stuff up is a good cheap teacher. If you are really itching try the Navrun or Night Nav which is on next weekend, this wil be a mix of nav work with 5 or 6 special stages similar to what hapens in winch comps.

I aint orientating my efforts into winning etc, I just want to have fun, be part of the competition and give myself and the lux a challange.
Just want to make sure I am actually capable of entering things (other than Nav Runs) with only small horsepower and tyres..

the lux has plenty of clearance so just about any comp will do...just enter the next one that comes up in your area.
winning doesn't matter...finishing does!
concentrate on completing the courses even if you have to go slower to avoid mechanical damage and then you will see what your truck needs to make it better.
above all else though...just have fun

Just jump right in. If you're confident enough to think that you may be ready then chances are that you are ready. I turned up to my first comp (QROCK 2003) without a spotter and only one locker. I didn't expect to do well but ended up with a respectable 2nd in my class.
The less capaple your vehicle is, the more difficult it is to do serious damage IMHO. So with this in mind, go out and drive your hardest (within your own comfort zone) but still keep in mind that you have to drive home. This is the hardest part You'll get to a point where you'll have to make the call to give something a miss. There isn't any shame in this. Everyone's been in the same position.
Also helps if you have a like-minded spotter who knows when to call it quits as well
