39x13.5R17 BFG Krawlers on Hilux

Post by cplux »

Hi I am looking at potentially fitting some 39x13.5r17 BFG Krawlers on my 88 model yn67 hilux and am wondering what peoples opinions/experiences are on wether they will fit or what is needed to make them fit.

I am currently looking at 17x8" rims with a neg 50mm offset

rims are spec'd as 8.5" - 11" for the tyre size but i will employ either mechanical or secondair beadlocks to stop them walking off the bead.

My vehicle has 2" bodylift
custom leaf suspension somewhere around 4-5"
Front diff approx 3" forward
Ifs hub converted front
Ifs width rear

I dont really care too much about chopping metal to make them fit (particularly the rear of the front wheel wells) but am wondering how much chopping will be involved and where. eg guards etc
well-back tray will be replaced by some form of tube one.

The vehicle will no longer be used on-road especially with these particular tyres on.

thanks for the assistance

Craig

What's a typo? 39's or 37"s

Ifs rears up front are the go to help with the clearance.. But with that lift and big tyres chances are the truck will fall over easily so may as well put a exo on if your serious and not driving on road.. You will be better off with 10" rims with that width tyre.

thanks for the reply tyre size is to be 39", I already have the suspension setup (much more travel than ifs rears up front and already pretty far foward on the front axle) and the overall vehicle has been orientated towards dedicated 4wd work for years with extensive modifications.

I am currently running 35"s with no drama's. that is with neg 28 offset rims

I am just interested in finding out what others know or have experience with fitting a 39" tyre as stated particularly with interest to body clearances.

There are few people in aus that go past a 37 on a hilux. And even fewer do it with leaf springs. So info is going to be hard to find, imo the best option is to buy them, fit them and see for yourself. Nobody knows your truck like you do so any advice will be nothing more than opinions and assumptions unless they have that setup themselves

That said, your springs moving the front diff forward 3" with the lift and body lift. With some chop of the rear of the guards and a bit of bump stop extension they should fit

Once you've shoe horned a set of 39s under your guards, have you taken into account the stresses these tyres are going to put on your axles, cvs, hubs, diffs, pretty much your entire driveline and upgraded them to suit? Then of course you have the issue of gearing and a motor to turn them. Takes big $$$ to run such large tyres on a lux and the cost of the tyres is only a small part of it.

Anyway as said above. No one is going to have a text book answer on what you need to do to clear 39s. It's going to be a matter of start cutting/lifting and moving axles till they fit.

One of my good mates has his lux sitting in 38.5x14.5 maxxis on 15 Or 16 x10(not sure offset) on his ln65 has a wellbody with massive firbroglass guards. It's run by a supercharged v6 ecotec. 5.29 diffs and turbo 700 box. Jumps it all the time full cage. And legal on 35s for rego. Will get pics this arvo

That's a zook with 3" and 33s for refence for how big this is. Also hasn't wide tracked it yet.

And that's it's stance. Look at the pumped guards.

Regod on 35s

Plan is wide track front and 75 series rear

thats a bit more like the kind of info i am after, do you know what brand guards they are or are they custom?? do you know if he did any work on the rear of the front wheel well, it looks to me like i will have to cut mine even into part of the body mount below where the accelerator pedal is in driver side and same on other side. Does he flex it up heaps of just jump it??

Have a look at team Jekyll and hyde lux, it's running 40" treps on leaf springs.
I know it has dual case and it dose eat cvs and diff gears.

I'm running them on an 85 lux with Locktups 5inch kit as well as trimming around 2inch out of the guards.

i run 38.5 - 16 wide on my 96 diesel, with about 3 inch lift (2 inch body) ifs rears , sagged old man emu fronts and terrible shackle angles but does the job , i havnt moved the front diff forward but yet i have a 40mm shaft spacer in the front and it stills falls out . i have cut the guards about 4 inches and it flexs up just fine int he front lots of up travel and down , must have fluked it i guess,

i havnt broken anything yet and the biggest problems i have is braks holding it on hills and pulling up at the lights and also steering as when they are aired down i have to keep rocking it to turn
