GQ air vent problem

Post by nayto »

Ive got a 96 GQ wagon and am in the process of fixing up a few little problems. One in particular thats annoying me is the air vent control lever wont fully slide along to the windscreen position.
I jammed my head up under the dash and you can see the control mechanism easily, disconnected the cable and it gets full stroke and moves to each position smoothly. But with the cable connected it only goes to the middle roughly...... It seems the cable is the wrong length. I didnt think there would be different length cables?
Anyone ever had this problem?

more likely there is something jamming the flap and restricting movement.
Maybe a pen left on the dash and worked its way down through the vent?

Check that the cable is not kinked.

also there is a little clip that holds the tube the cable runs in.. they often come off or the tube slips inside the clip.

The flap moves freely when the cables disconnected, but with it connected it only has half travel. The cable itself doesnt seem long enough.....is it possible to connect the lever in a different position or something silly like that?
