Repair of alloy beadlock
Ok so i bought a set of Allied savannah beadlocks a few weeks ago and after the second drive on them i snapped a cromo axle and snapped 3 wheel studs and the other 3 came loose and wheel fell off..
So rim holes are only slightly flogged out, and same with tapered bit where wheel nut locks onto rim.
So question is has anyone repaired/ had a beadlock repaired?
It is about $500 of rim i would still like to use considering i have driven on it twice...
i could bolt it back on but unsure if the tapers need to be perfect (gets driven a fair bit on road)
Cheers Brad

Re: Repair of alloy beadlock
my dad had one of his alloys repaired ( the rim was no longer in production ) so it was the only option.
was about $200 or so .. the holes were tig'd up and remachined

Re: Repair of alloy beadlock
Google alloy wheel repairs
Nitto Mud Grapplers, Lockrite, 4.3s, Trail Ready BL, PTO, High pinion rear,Gu diff with Buds Customs armour and heaps of Superior gear, 24% Reduction .
Re: Repair of alloy beadlock
I wouldnt call it a bead lock repairer. That would suggest the beadlock has failed. Its just a alloy wheel repair. Pretty easy with the right tools.
Re: Repair of alloy beadlock
Can you find a wheel repair place that will machine the hole out to be round and insert steel slugs?
Re: Repair of alloy beadlock
yeh i found a place local that will look at it tomorrow, he thinks he is going to machine it out as said and put in steel inserts.. this is only $70 but would be alot more expensive if he has to weld it up as well as machine it back out..
But will see see tomorrow, in the mean time ill buy another and then this will just be used as a spare..
Thanks for the info and the help,
Cheers Brad

Re: Repair of alloy beadlock
Herrod Precision Engineering in Lazer Drive Rowville Vic will machine these and fit steel inserts, they have done heaps of GU alloys.
My friends aren't holding me back..... I'm pulling 'em forward.
Re: Repair of alloy beadlock
$70 sounds bloody good. Any wheel repairs I've had done, price seems to go up proportional to the price of a new wheel!

Re: Repair of alloy beadlock
yeh i dropped it off this morning and the guy said should be done by tomorrow arvo.. Was thinking $70 was cheaper then a new $500 beadlock...

Re: Repair of alloy beadlock
At that money i would gt all rims done.
Its not cool, unless it's got boost :)
Re: Repair of alloy beadlock
How do they fix the steel inserts in?
Re: Repair of alloy beadlock
The insert has what looks like a spline on the OD of it and the wheel gets remachined out so that it is a interferance fit and the insert gets pressed into alloy.
They were saying that its becoming more common for alloys to come from manufacturer with steel inserts, because when the rims are tightened/untightened alot the alloy has a habit of deforming/wearing and with the steel insert, it is a harder wearing surface and lasts longer.
