Re: front diff locker worth it?
Just for reference I have a Spartan locker in the rear of my hilux and I really don't like how it disengages and pops for that reason I wouldn't fit one to the front because I would be worried of the shock loading on my cvs I don't know anyone else running one so I dont know if its normal

TheBigBoy wrote:$900 landed for 2 is cheap. The chinese ones on ebay are $700 with compressor compared to arb locker only for $1000 landed. Where did he get the chinese ones so cheap from?

Re: front diff locker worth it?
I do now run front and rear arb air lockers, but I did run lock rite auto's for a few years and I have to say in a hilux (I know we are talking about a different truck) I don't think they are as bad as made out to be..
To the point when I start competing im pulling out my expensive air lockers and will run front and rear lockrites untill I brake them then put Arb's back in..
This argument has however been run a million times before..
As said on a full time 80, I vote air or electric lokker front or put (as said) part time kit and auto locker
Air/auto lockers are better when you have Controll but if funds are low.. Go auto..
Just my opinion

Air locker + compressor - $1500
Auto locker (Spartan) - $290
That alone makes them no comparison.
For the record, I just got this below Spartan locker delivered to my door from Wayneharwig (on Pirate4x4) who works at Diffsonly.com. It is an auto locker to suit 80 series front diff..
hahaha well it's been in the truck for over a month now and been used quite a few times. No pics really... how about this:
indubitably

Re: front diff locker worth it?
I have just gotten my 45 on the road and have my lokka in the rear, and it pops and farts going around slow corners ( haven't tried at speed yet, just up and down the block). It really gives me the shits, , I am wondering if it's the way it was installed, as I didn't have the right instructions. but a mate of mine had one in his 60 which he also installed himself and said he got the same thing He got rid of it because he couldn't stand it any longer. I have heard you should drive in a figure 8 to run them in? Any truth in this?metak wrote:Just for reference I have a Spartan locker in the rear of my hilux and I really don't like how it disengages and pops for that reason I wouldn't fit one to the front because I would be worried of the shock loading on my cvs I don't know anyone else running one so I dont know if its normal
Cheers.

Re: front diff locker worth it?
I got 1 in the rear if my lux. It's alright value. Will get a ARB in time to match my front air locker (ARB)
I haven't had any issues with my Spartan locker and I got 5.29 diffs and 35" muddies. Around tight corners or round abouts it feels like surging and it does click and bang when you on and off the gas in tight turns but for 399 delivered I can't complain. It's value

It's normal, but usually violent when it's new and you hardly know once it's worn in.
