D40 - Diesel Partictulate Filter problems?????.
G'Day,
Just wondering if anyone else has had
problems with a D40 navy D- rating itself due a blocked DPF ( diesel particulate filter). It seems to only be on the auto's.
any way of by-passing it?
any solutions ?

something must be wrong with the system, it should under the right conditions go into self clean mode which literally dumps lots of diesel in to the engine. Cant remember if the navras injectors overfuel of it has a injector in the DPF. The excess fuel burn hot and should burn up the particulates caught in the DPF and spit the out the exhuast.
I havent heard of the nissans having trouble with DPF's have heard of many of the small isuzu trucks having issues due to short town runs. Nissan should be able to do a manual burn using their scan tool.
Im not sure if it can be bypassed, i think there are sensors both pre and post DPF.

It seems to be a problem with both D40 Navara's and NS series auto Pajero's.
There's a company doing "race only" DPF delete pipes where they just put the factory sensors in an exhaust tube, the sensors don't register pressure differential so the computer sees no need to do a DPF burn.
Not legal for the road but I bet that's where they are ending up.
The company name is chipit.com.au they're getting quite a reputation (good) for local diesel chipping.

Are you using the correct engine oil? This is critical on vehicals running a dpf.

Thanks guys. yeh the right engine oil is being used the car has done less than 4000kms. so it's still on its orginal engine oil.

Go for a drive on a highway, stay above 80kmh for 30-60mins. Does this vehicle idle alot or do alot of stop start driving? A dpf regenerates in certain situations, generally at highway speeds, if you pull of during the regeneration, it won't start it again until pressure differences are getting high.
A forced regeneration can only be done at the dealer, you need to change oil afterwards because of oil dilution. Something to take up with nissan I think.

yeah its a known problem with the D40's. especially if you do a lot of around town driving and i suspect that driving through lots of water will cause it to as the DPF is under the ute where it can get cooled down.
instead of removing the DPF a cheaper fix is to block off (or partly block off) the EGR. its the cause of most of the soot, reduce the soot and the DPF won't clog up so quick.

I find it hilarious that something that is supposed to be an emissions device is "cleaned" by dumping shitloads of fuel into the exhaust so it can burn off....

I know on heavy vehicles if the dpf gets wet she becomes fingered and about 6-10 grand to replace. Unless car one are made by mystical fairies id reckon a similar fate on the d40
