Gas regulator/ converter

Post by chips59 »

I am after some info on gas regulators, I need to know which regulator / converter uses positive boost to meter gas out and at what is the maximum PSI it would put out.
This is for a diesel 4.2 TD.

cheers.

most gas converters run at around 50psi max.most deisel gas converters are the same as vpour injection converters and are boost or vacuum referenced by a vacuum hose.

Thanks for that but after converting from liquid to vapour are you saying the pressure is 0 to 50 depending on the boost pressure?

the minimum is usually around 15psi thats what most cars run at at idle.you didnt ask for a minimum only a maximum.also deisel gas usually use a vapour withdrawal gas tank so they arn't converting anything in a deisel only metering.

Thanks for that, I was asking about the regulator/converter as I was told if using this system (vapour) off road you could get a shot of liquid as the gas sloshes around.
If using for say going across the Simpson.

if you get vapour up the line the converter should take care of it if it makes it all the way up the line.if you get too much the converter might freese though as they are generally not heated on a small deisel as they require very little gas and its already in vapour form.

Thanks again for your reply, I take it you meant liquid in your reply not vapour.
Are you able to tell me what converter is used for the small diesel you were referring too.

Thanks Shane.

yeah i meant liquid, sorry. we use a torque gas unit that is the same as a petrol vapour injected system.it is a very simple unit as it is not used to meter gas just to control pressure.most deisels around the 4ltr mark run a 2 to 2.5mm jet in the injector so they dont use a lot of gas, to compare a 4ltr falcon run 6, 2.5 or 3mm jets with the same converter. elpigas make a larger unit we run on xr6, v8 cruiser, ls1 commodore etc.landi renzo, brc and romano also make a small one which would work the same.

Thank you for that, you have been very informative.

Would you then say lpg vapour could be like water as in that the pressure really does not matter to much it will only let so much come out the jet depending on the size of the jet?

cheers.

if its a liquid it will expand on the other side of the injector if it got through without freezing. the jet isnt the only limitig factor as the injector pulses but will only generally allow 80% duty cycle. some of the older systems didnt run a converter they ran just a lock, injecter, a hobbs switch set to limit gas pressure and another hobbs switch that operated off boost but they were pretty crude and known to destroy engines as they dont have the failsafes of the electronic ones so i dont fit them.
