Starter Motor Replacement for G16A??

Post by SaltyNalty »

I have a 1990 SWB Vitara with the G16A engine. The started motor has been drowned in mud one too many times and is dead.
So I'm trying to remove it which is supposed to be simple but I just can't access the mounting bolts easily, from above or below.

Has anyone done this before? If so how did you get to the mounting nuts and what tools did you use. Ratchet or wrench and how in hell did you torque up the nuts with the new starter?

Any help would be great.

Cheers,

Salty.

I use a crome socket (they have thinner side walls) with a long extension. Without the ratchet on the extension I get. The socket onto the nut then hold it in place then put the ratchet on. Doing it that way it let's you have more feel of what your doing.

Honestly it's a job any mechanicly minded person with a basic tool set should be able to do with there eyes shut.

A second tip is to use 1/4 drive tools as they are smaller and easier to get between the starter and block.
