Not really any difference. Nissan one will be a centered diff and the 80 one is offset. You can go down the track and graft the 80 series center onto hilux axle tubes.

80 diff is full floating too and has more upgrades available if you stick with its standard width, better brakes.

Correct, though only very early pov packs came with drums.

Incorrect, my 91 GXL spec has drums so not only pov packs, all up until the major break upgrade.

Can't comment on axle size as I've never measured a lux one, but I was running stock 80s rear axles in my for 4.5 yrs b4 I broke one, and that's cos I landed full noise the wrong way (v8, low gearing and 40" stickys)

the FF LC axles are thicker and stronger than the hilux SF ones by a long shot.

Yup

They're not unbustable by a long shot but they'll shit all over hilux stuff and being a full float servicing will be easier, and if you ever do have any issues with the axles or diff you can isolate them by removing the shafts and drive home in front wheel drive.

The 80 series rear centre is a huge lump of a thing by comparison to the hilux, but it will safely run larger tyres to compensate. Be aware that unless you change the front axle as well, the difference in width is massive and will be a pain in the arse. This will be the same regardless of nissan or yota diffs anyway.

Easy to buy upgraded 80 axles too. Hilux can also be converted to FF with tuff axles if you want to stick with lux centres.
