4 stroke gennie advice??

I have been looking for a 4 stroke for some time now and i have seen many on ebay......Does anyone have some experience with them? What are your thoughts guys?

Depends what size you want but I have a Honda is30 and it bloody brilliant, neat compact quiet and has remote start

Probally really depends on your needs.

Some of the ebay stuff is ok for seldome use stuff, but problems arrise when repair and parts come up. The honda and yamaha are more expensive but genneraly more reliable and parts available although also china made now.
The honda 2.0i was a good buy for me years ago and still going strong.

Perhaps some more info for us like size, how portable needed, what you want to run, were and how often to be used?

I was thinking of around the 2000w mark? That way i can run a small aircon and maybe some power tools too. If money was not an issue i would probably go for a honda, However i dont think i would use it that often to justify the coin....On the other hand i dont want to buy an absolute dud. I have one of the ebay gennie in 3500w. I paid about $650 for it delivered about 18months ago its probably been used 6 times in that period, running for a full day, most times. I can't fault it yet, I suppose time will tell I suppose, but if it broke and I couldn't fixi it I'd probably just buy another one.

if you bought a honda, yammy you wouldnt lose much money, and the back up you get is australia wide.
brother inlaw bought a honda 2000? second hand, phoned up straight away, it was sold QUICK......

you wouldnt have it for long if you had to sell it, they sell quick!

I was thinking of this lil baby...... It has a 4 yr warranty on the honda motor I know it aint a pure sign wave but it is a very good price so i can buy a quality inverter and run sensitive products of that??? Any thoughts??

If you're looking at that, I'd direct you to the trade tools direct Renegade range. I've bought a few gensets off them and they are all good. The 'honda powered' stuff has a honda badge but that's as deep as it goes - it's made under licence in China. We used honda Dunlite gennies for years until they went to honda licenced motors and became troublesome.
I have a 2500w trade tools unit and it would have more hours on it (7 Y.O.) than any domestically used unit could ever dream of. It is fully supported too - it's had new gpo's, new volt meter, new pull cords etc from being dropped, smashed and abused over the years by the night shift crew. Just drop it off and a week later its back again and ready to go. It runs 9 hours every night on night shift running lights and jackhammers etc. It has NEVER failed of it's own accord.

I bought a 'honda' generator off ebay, took it to the local honda shop. Was politly told its not an Australian model honda, they could not find the engine number on their system. So it is more likly to be a chinese honda engine. In other words it is made by honda but a cheaper version for china only.
The unit I bought was an 8kva and worked like a charm running a caddy welder on site easily paid for itself being hired out to customers. Until the the stator burnt out. I replaced it with a genlite generartor. Will get the stator rewound when I get a chance and keep for back up.
