Thinking Out Loud.....

Post by -Mick- »

Thinking (read dreaming  ) of diffs to replace the matchstick suzuki ones. Hoping to get some good tech flowing here :D

Things to realise are ;
i) This is relating to a sierra in general, not meant to relate specifically to my car, WT, NT, 1l, 1.3 or ya nanas zook
ii) I have no real inention of getting off my arse and measuring anything :P

I'll probably swap out my diffs later on but just interested in what's been done or what would fit for size etc. Coils or leaves are all cool :D Would love coils when I eventually do it I think :D

*Pushing big ball* Who knows what about

Rangie Diffs
Bundy Diffs
GQ or GU Patrol Diffs
80 Diffs
Lux Diffs
MQ/ MK Patrol Diffs
40/ 60 Cruiser Diffs
Holden Cruze/ Subaru Forester Diffs

which ever is cheapest! :D

for me i would go rangie cos i have them and rims to suit them. but they are nice and wide, 4 wheel disc brakes, seriously cheap, correct offset. depending how much coin you had lying around, you can toughen them up with longfields.

I was thinking of luxy or mqs for mine. But then I would have to get bigger tires.

agreed. rover axles are not that strong. but they should be fine for 33s under a light zook with a 1.3L.

Whats wrong with getting bigger tires you ask I say nothing except $$$$ I havent even tested my boggers yet so I can't go trading em for 37 mtrs till then. Since this is a thinking out loud thread I was mucking round with my other suzi today and I looking at all my gear boxes sitting there thinking twin boxes single tranny? How low would that be?? Lot more gears to choose from.

i got my mq's for less than the price of one lux diff.
plenty of clerance under the front diff, shave the rear and its all good.
the rear pumpkin is way offset, stays out of rutts.
way beef!
front spring pads line up with wide track zuk

or make them wider to fit narrow track like mine ;)

Cool

Can you email me some pics I'd like to get a feel for the width + clearance. How's the engineering aspect?

How hard are they to fit. I have an old MQ in my yard and I've got a WT zook I'm building up in stages might put the Mq diffs in at a later stage if its not to difficult.

I've seen it it person, shes pretty low and wide now.

There is some video of Mick in it on I reckon about a 60-70 degree angle, it popped a tyre off the bead, looks cool.
