You could make it lighter, lower it, remove any un-aerodynamic parts (ie. bullbar, roof top tent etc) - but then what's the point of having a 4wd...
Does it have a full time transfer case? A part time transfer with manual locking hubs would help a bit. Bigger exhaust and tune etc.

Thanks guys. I had never heard of hiclone. Really works?
Re: How can I modify 1HD FTE engine for better fuel consumpt
Yep increases fuel economy by 30%. Iv got a twin hiclone set up on my car.

30% is quite impressive. Is your vehicle 100 series with 1HDfte engine?
have you done any other mods on it?
have you done any other mods on it?
Re: How can I modify 1HD FTE engine for better fuel consumpt
im assuming its a 100 series u have. auto\manual
what are L\100kms you getting.
i know of some mods that increase the power which in turn helps drop the economy.
How many kms on it.
Whats the service record on it.
unforutnatly theres no secret button to make it run at 4L\100km.

Re: How can I modify 1HD FTE engine for better fuel consumpt
I have just bought the car.
100 series , auto, ex japan , 2000 model.
There is no service history. Vehicles come here into Kenya from japan and speedo are usually wound back.
The vehicle has been here a few years and serviced in various garages with no history.
It does about 8KM x liter.
What mods have you done for more power / economy ?

That's about as good as it gets, to put it into perspective my 1fz landcruiser gets 4km per litre. You are never going to get the same economy as a 3door hatchback.Africa100 wrote: It does about 8KM x liter
1993 80 series, 4" tough dog adjustable bb lift kit, LPG, 35" MTR'S

That is on par with our 100 series which is same specs as yours.. I wouldn't complain about that economy its pretty good for a 3t 4wd
Re: How can I modify 1HD FTE engine for better fuel consumpt
Install a chip or exhaust, or both!
Re: How can I modify 1HD FTE engine for better fuel consumpt
8km/litre is very good economy for a 1hd-fte.
The guys above are joking about the hyclone, they are a gimmick.
A better exhaust system can improve performance and maybe economy if driven gently.
Any gains you get through modifications will be fairly minor, and won't be cheap.
Have a look at http://www.lcool.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=3 for good info about your vehicle model

Thanks delirious, camos.
Rankin, have you fitted chip and exhaust?
What results did you get?
What make chip?
I thought most chips increase fuel in your engine and some also alter timing to give you more power but more consumption. You will get more fuel going down in the sump ,
having to change oil more frequently. Engine components stressed more making engine life shorter.
Do you know of any 1HDfte engine that has done a lot of Km with chip and no problems?
If you install better intercooling system are you not going to get better gains in power therefore less consumption?

Re: How can I modify 1HD FTE engine for better fuel consumpt
the theory behind the chips is. more power u have the less throttle your giving. up to a certain degree you can gain fuel savings. intercoolers and exhausts and hi flow snorkels just help the engine breather easier there for being more efficent.
downside you'll spend a couple of grand to save a couple of dollars per tank.
IMO in your case id just keep the car well services. tyres pumped up to correct pressure and enjoy it.
when u start neededing or wanting more power for towing or otherwise then look into exhausts, chips, intercoolers.

Re: How can I modify 1HD FTE engine for better fuel consumpt
You could always adjust your driving style ie off the throttle earlier, gently on the throttle when accelerating etc.
This is my best fuel economy mod as it doesn't cost anything.
