Current model dual cabs, your opinions?
Who's got one? I've been looking around recently and the new models have come a long way from where dual cabs were 5 years ago. So far the standouts are the new ranger and the Amarok (maybe because they both come with diff locks) the SR5 hilux ticks all the boxes for me but is getting left behind in power and towing capacity. The new colarado looks good but isn't available yet. What are your thoughts?

Got my new px ranger xlt 2 weeks ago and I love it. So much more comfortable than my old d40, power is great and gets about 8l/100km. They are a large car , bigger than most dual cabs so very comfy in the back aswell. Havnt tested out the factory locker yet or tested its 3350kg towing capacity. The new bt50s are identical mechanically.

Those Amaroks are Huge. Saw one on sunday, lifted with maybe 33's? at Ikea Took up the whole parking spot. Looks like it was aimed for the US

Just done some measurements, the Colorado has almost the same dimensions as my 80 series, the colorado is about 300mm longer than mine ( kaymar rear bar, high mount bullbar) and maybe 100mm narrower wheelbase, but the rest are fairly close. They are sold in the states maybe that's why.

If I go the dual cab route early next year it will be the Ford Ranger XLT with NavSat option. Best by far IMO.

I was at ford yesterday and they were under the Impression it isn't an option. Its an accessory I defenetly want. The bt50 has it tho so maybe it's doable. Edit, it's only available on the wild track and there's a 6month wait on them from the local ford dealer.

Yeah defenetly waiting for the new shape, 470 nm tourque 132kw 3.5t towing, silverado rear diff ( locker should be an option). Apparently (according to ford anyway) have a crap safety rating.

You don't have to buy in mackay, freight is pretty cheap and dealerships not in the boom areas will be more pliable. I drove the Amarok on the test track for quite a while during the 4wd promo down here. I didnt like it much at all.
The hilux was probably the best of the lot to be honest. (i drove nearly every new 4wd you can think of)

I'll put a vote in for Triton we sell bucket loads of them and they come back for work less than D-Max and Amarok. 5 Year 130,000 klms warranty 15k service intervals too. I
We sell Triton, Amarok and D-MAX let me know if you want a price once you decide which you are buying.
The D-max wil grow like the Rodeo, more f150 than f250 though (Current Ranger and Amarok size)
The Amarok is the best by far at the moment, it will just have the reliablilty test hanging over it's head for a few years.

Had a look at some pics of the new Colorado & not a fan of ugly grill & bonnet bulge. Also the dash is basically the same as my RA Rodeo. They really need to sack the interior designer & bring the cab up to date.

To be honest I seem to change my mind about 3 times a day about which one I prefer, like I said the hilux ticks all the boxes for me ( and I've had one as a work ute) but there seriously getting left behind by the competitors.

Hay mate I know this is left feild but have you ever driven the new D40 550 175kws and 7speed auto and before you say no, they do drive alot better then the YD25's and can tow alot more cheers Rick.

ive got an amarok and i have drieven most of the new shaped dual cabs except for the colarado for a few thousand kms and hands down the amarok is the most comfortable car that handles like a car and doesnt feel like a work truck and still returns 7.7lt/100, and off road well its VERY supprising in its standard form. Very large and plenty of capacity in the tub and interior. 8 speed auto will be out in a few months!

Had a look around the new ford/mazda dual cab other day and it looked alright apart from the very small gap between tire and shock strut. It looked to me if you let you're tyres down the tyre would scrub the strut. Has anyone had this happen or noticed the lack of room there?

Had a good look over these at the show on the w/e. I got the hots on these rangers with a bit of kit, they are definately bigger then the VW. Planning to get something newer/tow rig in 6-12mths and I love the hilux but it is failing in the power dept. & also lacks towing ability. LC200 woulda be the ultimate but its 60k for a 4-5y.o. Vehicle when you can get a new ute for the same price.
