external vs internal wastegates?
Has anyone fitted an external wastegate to a diesel? And is there much stuffing around doing so?
I mean, a turbo is great and all, but i'd rather be blown...

It would be no more stuffing around then fitting one to a petrol.
Unless you had a fairly decent aftermarket turbo or realy bad boost controll problems with your current setup then the extra cost/parts wouldnt really be worthwhile.

True. Currently it has an aftermarket turbo and no wastegate at all... The boost is insane and all, it goes great but I want my motor to last... I can't control it yet as it doesn't have a wastegate, unless I go easy on the pedal which defeats the purpose of putting a turbo on the old girl...

It takes exhaust heat to drive a turbo, if you are getting enough boost to think there is a problem, then it is likely an overfuelling problem showing as high boost.
What is your engine, what is the turbo and how much boost are you running? Do you have an EGT gauge, if so where is the probe located and how hot does it get under sustained load?

You could also fit a Dawse Valve in the system to regulate boost?
I'm not quitting drinking, I'm retiring at the top of my game - sporting comeback likely.

Cons are you need to mod the headers and the exhaust to suit.
