47 series hand brake on a 5 speed
Hey,
Was wondering im building a comp truck and have a 2h with a 5 speed in it but having trouble with the handbrake cable to the rear drums hitting the shocks. Can I fit the original handbrake drum from the four speed onto the back of this to negate the problem?

It has been setup for short coursing. It has a landcruiser/patrol/discovery rear suspension and the hand brake cables after they split are on the GQ shocks.

I would have thought you could fit one, as they have the same transfer case with the exception of a slightly larger idler shaft in the later ones.
I guess you would also need to use the earlier case so you had threads in the casting to mount the brake on.
I'll have a closer look next time I'm at the shed.
I have a 4 speed box with transfer case and handbrake if your looking for one.

HJ47 Troopy - Rear Air locker, 3" lift, 33 claws, Marks transfer gears, 60 Pwr Steer.

I put a 60 series 5 speed in my 47 troopy and took the back half off the 47 transfer and swapped it for the back half of the 60 transfer. It fits perfectly and the stock handbrake cable will still reach. Way easier then doing the rear wheels handbrake set up.

What did you do with your chassis crossmember?
I did the same conversion in my 47, but went for the rear wheel handbrake

The chassis cross member was not affected. Thats the tubular one I assume you mean. The hand brake drum was close but it has never touched. Some of the forums say it cant be done without taking the engine out bolting the box on and then putting the whole thing in but its not true. The engine will tilt a bit and you can get it all in place. I even used the 4 speed box cross member and 4speed gearbox mount. it was easier than I thought it would be.
I still had to get the shafts changed and the gear stick bent to a more upright position and I still have a huge hole in my floor with a towel jammed in it to keep out the hot air and noise but apart from that its the best thing I ever did for my 47. I can easily sit on 110 now.
Stick with it will be worth it in the end.

you can fit a 47 handbrake to a 5 speed it just takes a bit of part swapping between the cases depending on what 5 speed you have.

Cheers guys will gaping the handbrake cables out and if that doesnt work will be going this option after it. will post pics when done

About half way down there is a trans brake conversion.
Not sure if it will help you, but may give you an idea. (EG machine up a disc and fit a boat trailer cable operated brake caliper)
